Bureau Veritas is seeking the immediate hire of a Part-Time Permit Technician / Zoning Officer / Planner for their office in Braselton, Georgia. The person in this role will work under the direction of the Zoning and Permitting Manager. They are responsible for the accurate processing of zoning and permit applications, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. This role requires exceptional organizational, communication, and customer service skills, as well as the ability to perform a variety of administrative and technical duties.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Administrative Support:
* Operates and maintains the day-to-day functioning of the Zoning Office, including greeting visitors, answering phone calls, and responding to correspondence.
* Provides information and assistance to staff, partners, and the public; prepares correspondence, reports, and documents.
* Maintains the accuracy of the permit tracking database, including tracking permits issued and inspections performed for multiple client offices.
* Receives, records, and files zoning permit and compliance applications, along with accompanying plans and documents. Ensures all records are available for public inspection.
* Compiles and submits reports and documents as requested, including monthly updates.
Permit and Compliance Coordination:
* Reviews zoning permit and compliance applications to ensure they meet all relevant regulations or jurisdictional requirements.
* Issues zoning permits and certificates of compliance for construction when requirements are met or as approved by the Zoning Hearing Board or court rulings.
* Responds to complaints regarding Zoning and/or Property Maintenance Code violations. Issues enforcement notices and orders to violators as necessary.
Regulatory Oversight and Training:
* Studies and stays current on codes, standards, and regulations relevant to zoning and property maintenance.
* Attends ongoing training opportunities and maintains required credentials and certifications.
* Involved in plan review, ordinance review (for multiple clients), and creating staff reports from research.
* Schedules and participates in public hearings with the Zoning Hearing Board, Planning Commission, and other jurisdictional bodies. Furnishes requested facts, records, and information to aid decision-making.
Customer Service and Collaboration:
* Proactively communicates with staff, partners, and the public to provide updates, resolve inquiries, and address concerns.
* Maintains a customer-focused attitude, prioritizing the needs and interests of taxpayers.
* Builds and fosters collaborative relationships with office staff, department team members, and external partners.
Special Projects and Additional Support:
* Assists with special projects, which may involve research, analysis, and task coordination.
* Prepares forms, documents, records, indexes, and logs as needed.
* Supports other staff members with tasks as assigned.
Work Schedule:
* Performs scheduled assignments primarily within the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
* Occasional after-hours meetings and travel to client offices will be required.
Required Education/Experience:
We will consider any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for this job.
* Minimum education required: High school graduate (or equivalent)
* AICP or ICC certification preferred, but not required.
* Valid Georgia driver's license.
* Understanding of all local and state laws related to zoning, including thorough knowledge of the Sunshine Law and the Right to Know Act.
* Previous experience working in a zoning and/or permitting office in a Zoning Official, Code Enforcement, permitting, or admin role. Certification preferred, but not required.
* Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
* Fluent in verbal and written English; expert at Business English.
* Operates office equipment, machines, and computers.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Familiar with permitting software preferred.
* Strong service orientation and friendly demeanor.
* High attention-to-detail and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
* Able to manage workload, multitask, and work independently while advancing self-directed priorities in group settings.
* Efficient and organized with a strong work ethic and excellent sense of initiative and follow-through.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
