The Position

Start your career in Local Government with the City of Ontario!The Administrative Intern is a paid, part-time/temporary position scheduled to work no more than 29 hours per week and is not eligible to participate in the City's health insurance or retirement plans.
NOTE: This internship will be part of a rotational program structured to provide interns exposure with various departments throughout the City. This internship have a duration of six (6) months.
Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis until a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received. Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply early. Applications will be reviewed on a quarterly basis depending on the agency's needs. The next review of applications will be conducted around April/May 2025 with a tentative start date after July 1, 2025.
Completed applications will be reviewed and only qualified applicants whose qualifications best meet or exceed the requirements of the position and needs of the City, will be invited to participate further in the selection process.

As the Administrative Intern within Management Services, your primary duties will be to assist in and complete a wide variety of administrative, technical, and research assignments in support of the Management Services Agency. The Administrative Intern performs entry-level analytical work under the mentorship of the Management Services designee and other management-level employees. As with any internship experience, individuals who are resourceful with a desire and initiative to learn as much as possible from experienced employees will have the greatest benefit from their internship.

Examples of Essential Functions
The essential functions typically performed by the Administrative Intern assigned to Management Services include the following:
- Assists members of management, professional and technical staff by performing a variety of administrative, technical, and analytical projects and assignments.
- Provide administrative support including occasional coverage of public-facing reception desk and Department phone line.
- Conducts research, analyzes data and develops reports to summarize and communicate findings.
- Collects, compiles, analyzes, interprets, and presents data and findings.
- Assists with preparing visual and written content for formal documents (e.g., audit reports, memoranda, policies, etc.).
- Responds to requests for information and general questions from City staff and the public.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualification Guidelines
EducationSuccessful completion of some major college course work in Public or Business Administration, or a closely related field.

Acceptable forms of proof include Unofficial Transcripts, Official Transcripts, Photos and/or Photocopies of Institutional Degree/Certifications.
Licenses
Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment are required.
DesirableSuccessful completion of one to two years of college with major course work in Public or Business Administration, or a closely related field is desired.
