GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision and working in a manufacturing environment with a variety of resin systems, this position builds up, fabricates, cures and assembles various types of composite materials where required information is readily available, methods and sequences have been predetermined and tooling is provided. Works from and interprets engineering drawing and diagrams that do not contain detailed information of all operations. Provides direction and guidance to less experienced staff. Salary: $35-45 per hr. #LI-Onsite ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Reads blueprints, diagrams, process sheets, and assembly and schematic drawings. * Cut carbon, fiberglass or Kevlar using hand tools. * Perform bonding operations (abrade, clean, prep adhesives, etc.) * Hand lamination of various materials including (carbon, glass, Kevlar, film adhesives and foam or metallic cores) * Knowledge of both prepreg systems as well as wet lay processes. * Familiar with Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Mold (VARTM) process. * Perform full vacuum bag cure cycles from running instrumentation, debulking through monitoring oven runs. * Records information on appropriate production records, logs and other report forms. * Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules. Recommends measures to improve production methods. * Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities. * Performs re-work as required. Repairs defective products rejected by inspection or test personnel. * Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices. * May provide guidance and training to other technicians. * Suggests ways to simplify and improve methods and procedures wherever possible. * Champions good safety practices throughout the facility and acts as an example for others to follow in order to maintain a safe working environment. * Other duties may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Required: * Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards. * Ability to interact effectively and professionally with peers and supervisors. * Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary. * Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing schedules, priorities, and processes. * Ability to adhere to workplace rules. * Knowledge of assigned work area manufacturing processes, tooling, techniques, and materials. Preferred: N/A EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required: * High School Diploma or equivalent experience * 5 to 15 years of relevant experience in a production / manufacturing environment * Ability to read, diagrams, charts, and procedure manuals. * Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with others both verbally and in writing. * Must be familiar with duties and requirement of each position assigned to the department. * Must be able to operate multiple different hand-tools. Preferred: N/A WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Manufacturing environment / shared workbench or workstations * Ability to perform repetitive motion (rotating wrists, keyboarding, using small/large tools) * Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time. * May be exposed to noise and hazardous chemicals and hazardous conditions. * Frequently required to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and/or to climb or balance. * Occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl * May work extended hours and/or weekends. * Employee may generate, handle, manage, or work around hazardous materials and hazardous wastes. * May be required to lift up to 50 pounds in accordance with KUAS General Safety Training guidelines. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: * Is not required.
