Title: Dispatcher Senior DSP00620, DSP03034 State Role Title: Emergency Coordinator II Hiring Range: Negotiable and commensurate with experience. Pay Band: 4 Agency: Department of State Police Location: Fairfax, Virginia Agency Website: vsp.virginia.gov Recruitment Type: Agency Employee Only - A Job Duties Applicants hired into this position who are not currently VA state government employees are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus upon hire with signature of a 12-month agreement. Applicants hired into this position who are currently working for VA state government are eligible for a $5,000 retention bonus after 10 months of successful service with signature of an agreement for an additional 12-months of service. Current Virginia State Police employees working in a Dispatcher function are not eligible for a retention bonus. About the Position: The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Dispatcher Senior at our Division 7 Headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia. The successful candidate will function as a lead worker in the Communications Center to provide assistance to law enforcement and emergency personnel, the public, and the media and leads the work of a Communications Center. The person in this position provides support and guidance to other dispatchers and call takers within the communications center to perform their duties effectively and proficiently; trains and provides guidance to new dispatchers; operates within a specific geographic area by sending and receiving information and sending emergency assistance or service equipment to assist law enforcement personnel or the public; operates a variety of equipment; maintains logs and records; and accesses information through various systems/databases including CAD, VCIN, NCIC, NLETS. Minimum Qualifications * Considerable knowledge of federal and State regulations governing the use of radio transmission and exchange of emergency communications; of the geographical area and locations of safety and emergency personnel and equipment within the area; of the rules and regulations pertaining to emergency communications to include radio codes; and of communications equipment and procedures. * Skill in operating computers and keyboarding to include Microsoft software applications. * Demonstrated ability to make/monitor entries, inquiries, and retrievals made in various communications databases; to work under pressure and exercise sound judgment under stress; to multi-task; to handle complaints/compliments; to lead staff, provide training, and formal instruction; to ensure safety guidelines and regulations are followed during emergency situations; to prepare reports; to work holidays and weekends; to work independently and as member of a team; and to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English. * Graduation from high school or equivalent. * Prior experience as a police/emergency service dispatcher is required. * Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified which requires either United States citizenship or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
