Position Details Position Information Position Title Post-doctoral Research Associate in Experimental Plasma Physics Location Appleton Department Physics Position Type Staff Position Description & Qualifications Lawrence University invites applications from those interested in a two-year full-time postdoctoral research position at a small undergraduate college. The successful candidate will take primary responsibility for conducting electron plasma experiments in a purely toroidal field trap and in a dipole trap. Experience in laboratory plasma physics is desired, as well as CAD design and development of experimental control and data acquisition systems using LabVIEW. The responsibilities associated with this position include: * Assembling and maintaining experimental equipment associated with the plasma physics laboratory, including the Lawrence Non-neutral Torus II and the Lawrence Non-neutral Dipole. * Planning and carrying out experiments on the plasma devices. * Authoring papers and delivering presentations that result from experiments in the Lawrence plasma devices. * Supervising undergraduate research students who undertake projects in the plasma laboratory. * Teach one course each year. This position is funded in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation, and therefore, the person in this position will be responsible for following applicable federal grant requirements. Lawrence University is a small private liberal arts college in Appleton, Wisconsin with an enrollment of 1500 undergraduate students. The physics department consists of four professors and one staff member. There are typically 30-40 students in the physics program with ten completing the physics major each year. The department is committed to providing genuine research experiences for students and expects the candidate to share that commitment. Candidates must have a PhD in physics or a related field by the start date.
