We take pride in being able to say that no other station does it better. Job Summary/Description: KWTX News 10, is seeking an experienced Sports Director. If your idea of sports is standing at a wall showing highlights from major league teams more than an hour away, DO NOT apply. If you think the only sports that deserve coverage are played with balls, DO NOT apply. If you believe sports can range from hunting to archery to competitive yoga with goats, PLEASE APPLY. If you believe there are amazing stories going untold in youth sports, PLEASE APPLY. If you believe sports-related stories deserve to be higher in a newscast than the "D" Block, PLEASE APPLY. If you're not afraid to ask tough questions and lead our newscasts when sports teams, players and coaches make the news, PLEASE APPLY. Duties/Responsibilities include, but not limited to: * Produce, write, shoot, and edit daily sports-related stories for our early evening newscasts * Produce non-traditional late-evening sportscasts for on-air and digital * Collaborate with sports reporter in planning daily and long term promotable coverage * Produce sports specials throughout the year, including a weekly high school football show, a yearly high school football special and yearly Baylor sports specials * Execute a digital and social strategy that emphasizes digital first for sports-related stories * Front breaking sports-related stories and strive to be the lead in our evening newscasts * Develop and maintain sources of information in the local sports community for story generation * Participate in story selection process through meetings, and contribute story ideas daily * Demonstrate sound news judgment, collaborate with others to present innovative stories and sportscasts * Ability to travel for sports assignments and coverage, as needed * Ability to lift 35-40lbs of gear * Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed Qualifications: * 3 years previous sports and news experience, previous live reporting experience required * Previous producing experience, ENPS experience helpful * Ability to plan long-term coverage and coordinate travel for high school and Baylor sports * Ability to shoot and edit video, write scripts, and effectively communicate live on-air * Flexibility in scheduling, to respond to the changing news/sports landscape * A degree in journalism or related field * Ability to be self-motivated and work efficiently in a small-group setting * Familiarity with non-linear editing, TVU, Sony ENG, Edius and Social Media * Valid drivers license with good driving record * Employment contingent on a preemployment MVR check If you feel you're qualified and want to work with a great group of people go to https://gray.tv/careers#currentopenings, you may type in the job title, station call letters, or click on "apply now", upload your resume, cover letter, and references (Current employees who are interested in this position can apply through the Gray-TV UltiPro self-service portal) KWTX-TV/Gray Media is a drug-free company Additional Information: Gray Media provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
