Description
We are looking for Correctional Officers to join our team. Our team has a better Officer-to-Patient ratio that is more favorable than most facilities. We value our team at Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center (KCPC). KCPC performs pre-trial competency evaluations for persons in Kentucky and we are the only Forensic Hospital in the state of Kentucky serving all 120 counties. KCPC has opening on both shifts working 13-hour shifts, three to four-day work week with three consecutive days off. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Monitor and participate in activities with patients while providing a safe therapeutic environment, maintaining custody and control.
* Operate a control panel, performs round, escort patients, conduct searches and report count of patients.
* Actively participate in behavioral program planning and implementation while cooperating with all disciplines to achieve maximum safety and therapeutic benefits.
* Verbally or physically intervene as a team member in hostile situations.
* Provide pertinent information for patient medical charts.
* Provide written reports on incidents and keep supervisors informed.
* This position supervises and assists the OTHER Correctional Officers on the living Units.
* Provides effective communication and motivation ensuring all Security Departments polices are adhered to.
* Provides a safe, therapeutic, and secure environment in support of the medical review process.
* Conducts periodic inspections, ensuring appropriate key control and security measures are followed at all times.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate would have:
* Skills in teamwork, attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and great communication skills. • Required to work 13-hour shifts, be flexible and able to work ANY shift and ANY days. • Required to be 21 years of old. • Have a current and maintain a valid driver license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be twenty years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. For the Department of Juvenile Justice, must successfully complete the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy within six months of employment. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work environment is hazardous due to working in a state correctional facility with convicted felons or in a juvenile detention facility. May be exposed to hazards and dangers associated with operating a motor vehicle while providing transportation services.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
