POSITION SUMMARY The Billing Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating daily billing, follow-up, posting, adjustments and collection activities for assigned patient insurance, and or government accounts. This position also coordinates activities with the vendor manager and the denial/underpayment manager to insure that accurate account balances are referred to in-house and outside collections, while also reviewing and completing all preliminary and final Account Receivable reports on a monthly basis. The Billing Manager serves as a hospital liaison with the denial/underpay manager for Managed Care contract compliance, and/or Medicare billing compliance. This position handles all patient complaints related to billing and collection. The Manager works closely with Utilization Review to keep utilization losses at a minimum monitoring factors that negatively impact reimbursement due to lack of medical necessity or required authorizations. This position prepares and submits monthly departmental performance analysis as needed. This position is also responsible for evaluating and updating work flows in Relay Assurance and Aergo/Escort to insure efficient accounts processing. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in business, finance or accounting required. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: EXPERIENCE: 5-7 years hospital billing experience required. Directly related management experience (physician billing, insurance, company claims processing, etc.) may be substituted. 1-2 years supervisory experience required. Must possess strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills required. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position. WORK ENVIRONMENT This position requires desk and computer work the majority of the time. Some standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds required. The essential functions for this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP This position reports to the Director of Patient Accounting and supervises the Billing Supervisor as appropriate for the respective area of responsibility.
