HVAC Controls Engineer III KCC is an employee-owned company with multiple divisions related to construction, local HVAC service, and the design/manufacturing of commercial HVAC equipment. This position is for the division that designs and manufactures commercial HVAC equipment, which includes rooftop packaged units, air handlers, DX and hot/chilled water systems. Summary: As an HVAC Controls Engineer III you will be leading teams that develop, test, and support controls efforts for sophisticated HVAC equipment/systems. This position works with engineering, sales, and extensively the field support department to expand product offerings, determine root cause of issues, or for continuous improvement efforts. You will be leading major controls improvement projects, update supporting controls documents, or assist with field support/sales support. As a Controls Engineer III, you must have (or develop) a high-level understanding of refrigeration, fans, valves, energy recovery, and all other industry-related systems. This position has an option for traveling to jobsites for problem solving or additional testing on new controls projects. Controls for this position are developed using a knowledge of electrical and commercial HVAC principles, industry standards, and programming written with graphical logic in programmable logic controllers (PLC). One responsibilities of a Controls Engineer III is to develop training or continuous education programs for less senior engineers, service technicians, sales people, or other departments. Benefits: * 9 Paid Holidays * EBITDA Bonus * Health, Dental, Vision insurance, and other Ancillary coverages * 401K * Monthly Accrued Vacation * Employee Assistance Program * Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) Essential Functions or Responsibilities: * Answer incoming customer inquiries related to HVAC equipment and systems. * Update and maintain controls documents, such as sequence of operation, electrical diagrams, BACnet point lists, startup guides, etc. * Optional: Travel (up to 25%) to jobsites/test facilities to diagnose field issues, testing, or continuous education opportunities. * Develop and maintain training programs for field service technicians. * Assist sales team with creating presentations covering product offerings. * Work with field service or tech support technicians to remotely diagnose issues, primarily related to controls, but could be related to other HVAC equipment. * Continuous education in industry-leading technologies, such as psychrometrics, DX refrigeration systems, energy recovery, fans, etc. * Leading efforts for major program updates, field solutions, or other related major controls efforts. * Develop testing plans or strategies for lower-level controls engineers to execute. * Participate in conference calls with customers that have product questions or to assist finding a resolution on problem jobs. * Other duties, as assigned. Qualifications/Skills: Requirements: * Must be able to meet safety/physical requirements. * High school diploma or equivalent. * Technical degree, certification, or higher-level education relating to HVAC, controls, refrigeration, or related field. * Experience with controls, electrical, or related field. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Experience using computers and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.). * Either possess an EPA 608 Certification, or willing to become certified within 6 months of starting. * Ability to type at least 20 words per minute, or willing to learn within the first 6 months of starting. Prefer: * Previous customer service, technical support, or customer interaction experience preferred. * HVAC or manufacturing experience. Safety/Physical requirements: * Ability to lift 50 lbs. * Fluent in English. * Requires bending, stooping, and standing. * Must be able to stand from six (6) to eight (8) hours per day. * Follow established safety policies including, but not limited to, mobile equipment, PPE, emergency response, HAZCOM, first-aid response, etc. Other Duties: Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required by the employee for this job.
