ABOUT THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE Founded in 1917, the National Hockey League (NHL) is the premier professional ice hockey league in the world, and is one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU SUMMARY The National Hockey League seeks recent (i.e., class of 2024 or 2025) law school graduates for a two-year legal clerkship program, which aims to provide early in-house opportunities. The clerkship program would begin in September 2025. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Participate as a member of the League's internal legal team with exposure to a broad range of matters, including business transactions, labor and employment law, intellectual property, licensing transactions, financing matters, corporate governance and compliance, and other matters. One of the two clerkship positions will be responsible for working primarily on intellectual property matters, including trademark, copyright, content, and related matters. Responsibilities may include: * Participating in drafting and negotiating sessions for various corporate documents; * Assisting with labor matters such as grievance hearings and other matters arising under the Collective Bargaining Agreement; * For the clerkship position focused on intellectual property matters, providing support on intellectual property matters, including clearances, drafting licenses and related agreements, trademark matters, and conducting legal research; * Reviewing and participating in policy and training development on corporate compliance matters; * Participating in meetings with League management and Club personnel to provide legal and business advice; * Working collaboratively with outside counsel; * Providing support on internal employment and human resources matters; and * Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge Areas/Experience Required * Recent (i.e., class of 2024 or 2025) graduate of an accredited Law School * High level of commitment to quality work product * Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments, priorities, and deadlines in a timely, efficient and effective manner, with attention to detail * Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary and to travel for business purpose as requested (note: minimal travel is expected in this role) * Ability to reason through complex legal documents and arguments * Ability to distill relevant information and summarize in a clear coherent manner Education/Certifications * Law degree; Member of New York Bar or intention to sit for New York Bar Exam (or UBE) Required Skills * Excellent interpersonal and communication (both written and oral) skills * Excellent organizational and project management skills * Pro-active attitude and a genuine desire to learn CORE COMPETENCIES These core competencies reflect the underlying values that are necessary to represent the National Hockey League: * Accountability * Adaptability * Communication * Critical Thinking * Inclusion * Professionalism * Teamwork & Collaboration The NHL offers U.S. regular, full-time employees: Time to Recharge: Utilize our generous Paid Time Off (PTO) to focus on your well-being and ensure a healthy work/life balance. SALARY RANGE: $85K Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to: experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
