About the Position: The Community Services Officer responds to requests for service concerning criminal matters and minor traffic accidents; takes and prepares missing persons, crime, and other reports; and participates in nuisance abatement programs. Most assignments involve regular interaction with citizens by phone and in person. AND At least one (1) year of experience in law enforcement, community services, or other peace keeping or social services experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Licenses, Certificates, Special Requirements:  A valid California driver's license is required. Satisfactory completion of training required for accessing of CLETS and other law enforcement information systems. Physical Requirements and Work Environment:  Employees sometimes work under typical office conditions and the noise level is generally quiet. Employees are frequently required to work outdoors in inclement weather, exposed to dust, fumes, gases, odors, traffic, and other hazardous situations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, or walk; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to manipulate, handle, and feel computers and standard business equipment, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may be required to lift and carry supplies and materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to hear in the normal audio range in person and by telephone. BENEFITS AND REWARDS The City offers an attractive compensation and benefit package, that includes: * Retirement - Participation in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Tier I Employees hired before 10/3/11:  CalPERS 2.7% at 55; Classic members with less than 6 months separation: CalPERS 2% at 55, single highest year plan. New members, CalPERS 2% at 62, three highest year average plan. * Health Insurance - Monthly contribution of $715.00 (Employee Only), $1,377.00 (Employee plus one), or $1,841.00 (Employee plus Family) for health, dental and vision premiums. Eligible employees who waive all medical, dental, vision, supplemental life, and supplemental AD&D benefits will receive an annual "Health Insurance Waiver Stipend" of $3,500.00 every first paycheck of December. * Leave * Vacation - 80 hours annually, accrued bi-weekly; available for use after one (1) year. * Sick Leave - 96 hours annually, accrued bi-weekly; available for use after ninety (90) days. * 13 holidays, plus 18 hours of floating holiday time. * Life & Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance - The City provides Term Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance. * Other - Optional Deferred Compensation Plan, flexible benefits plan, pre-tax childcare plan, employee assistance program, and all other benefits which are received by General Unit employees of the City per Memorandum of Understanding.
