Line Crew Supervisor Pay Range: $40.77 - $57.38 NATURE OF WORK This is skilled work supervising a crew engaged in the installation and maintenance of power lines and related electrical components. Work involves supervising a crew of skilled and semi-skilled workers performing assignments in the installation, maintenance, and repair of distribution and transmission lines and related components of the municipal electrical distribution system. Incumbents instruct a crew in carrying out assigned tasks, participate and inspect work while in progress, and ensure that safe practices are followed in work performance. Work assignments are received from an administrative superior in the form of work orders, blueprints, or verbal instructions. Employees are responsible for obtaining the necessary materials, assigning subordinates to tasks, and carrying the job through to completion. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed through inspections and on the basis of results achieved. Supervision is received from an administrative superior. Supervision is exercised over crews of subordinate employees. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following examples of work are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive: * Plans and lays out jobs and assigns tasks to members of the crew. Supervises and participates in the work of subordinates in the installation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground power lines and related electrical components; operates line truck, bucket truck, backhoe, and other equipment. * Oversees the methods used by lineworkers to ensure their safety and ensures that protective devices and equipment are used where indicated. Ensures that equipment is properly maintained, advises superior of equipment malfunctions. * Maintains necessary records of work progress and completion; requisitions and maintains materials and supplies. Maintains contact with other utilities and the public in scheduling and performing the work. * Operates various types of equipment and tools necessary to perform work on high and low voltage power lines, underground wiring and transformers. * Performs other work which is consistent with the essential functions of the job. DESIREABLE KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS * Plans and lays out jobs and assigns tasks to members of the crew. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school supplemented by vocational courses covering electricity, meters, high-voltage circuit breakers, transformers, and related equipment; thorough experience in electric distribution installation and maintenance work including experience at the line worker first class level; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS * Employee must possess and maintain a valid Nebraska Driver's License when operating a vehicle. * When operating equipment that falls under the Nebraska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) status, the employee is required to possess and maintain the proper license and endorsements as a mandatory condition of employment.
