Title: Labor Market Analyst (QCEW) State Role Title: Policy and Planning Specialist I / 19131 Hiring Range: $42,905 - $52,500 Pay Band: 4 Agency: Department of Workforce Development and Advancement Location: VEC CENTRAL OFFICE Agency Website: www.virginiajobs.gov Recruitment Type: Agency Employee Only - A Job Duties Collect, analyze, research and classify employment and wage data which is used to produce quarterly and yearly reports on employment and wages for Virginia public and private sector enterprises by industry and areas. Collect and review survey responses and reports for quality and compliance; analyze employers' estimated employment, wage and tax data to determine reasonableness; assign, review, verify and update necessary code items to produce data in accordance with Bureau of Labor Statistics prescribed methods; and identify, revise and/or explain atypical employment and wage data fluctuations within areas of reporting responsibility. Review tax records and contact employers directly (via e-mail, telephone, fax or mail) to verify questionable data; update information in system; and update and maintain electronic and hard copy files. Interact effectively with agency staff, employers, state and federal staff, etc., to explain the program, data fluctuations, and/or reports. Work independently and as a team member to achieve established response goals and objectives and ensure actions comply with established protocol related to collection, analysis and reporting of Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) data. Minimum Qualifications * Basic knowledge of survey design, sampling and data collection principles and practices; interpretation of statistical data and economic analysis; telephone etiquette; and general office operations. * Strong analytical, customer service, oral and written communication, and computer skills (including use of Microsoft Office Excel and automated data systems). * Ability to collect, analyze, interpret and report data; identify, address and document discrepancies, trends and variances; respond to requests for information; key data into an automated system; update industry codes; interact effectively with various parties (including employers, accountants, attorneys, tax service firms, etc.). * Interpret and apply standards; meet strict deadlines; and work effectively independently and as a team member. Additional Considerations * Experience working with labor market and/or salary data. * Experience conducting quality assurance reviews. * Experience working in a call center and/governmental environment soliciting and providing information.
