The Work You Will Do: OPS Construction Projects Consultant II (37970216) The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Recreation and Parks, Bureau of Design and Construction is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated individual to join our fast-paced, $50 million design and construction team. The Bureau's primary customer is the Florida Park Service, recognized for the fourth time as the best state park system in the United States. This position will schedule up to 40 hours per week. Pay: $27.00 - $33.00 per hour (commensurate with experience) Your Specific Responsibilities: This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organized and motivated individual to direct and manage construction projects relating to new state park development, renovation, rehabilitation and facility repair in the Central Panhandle and Northwest Florida. Regular travel for site inspections (as much as 50%) is required with this position. Duties and responsibilities: * Directs and manages administration to ensure fulfillment of contractual obligations of contractors, and consulting architects and engineers for the design and/or construction administration phase of their contract. * Thoroughly inspects assigned projects to verify compliance with construction/bid documents. * Manages projects utilizing effective construction administration procedures without deviation, to meet project schedules and budgets. Uses state vehicle for site inspection and meetings. * Schedules and chairs project related conferences and inspections with appropriate personnel in an organized professional manner. * Manages special projects or tasks to comply with established time frames with only valid situations exempt including information systems related coordination for the Design and Construction section with Divisions and Agency. * Manages projects to ensure quality workmanship to meet and/or exceed Design and Construction section's standards and industry standards. * Reviews change orders for fairness and accuracy. Coordinates changes with Design Manager (when applicable) and processes promptly to avoid project delay. * Evaluates pay invoices to assure work has been accomplished appropriately; approves and processes promptly in accordance with Finance and Accounting procedures. * Verifies permitting conditions have been met by the contractor. * Complies with established purchasing rules and regulations during assigned project implementation. * Carefully reviews pre-bid construction documents prepared by consultants or staff with regard to construction methods and techniques, and minimizes errors and/or omissions, without delaying design completion. * Maintains construction files in a neatly organized, pre-audit condition. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: * Principles, techniques, materials and equipment in building construction. Knowledge in: * Architecture/engineering design, construction, production and/or operations. * General construction (design standards, and construction administration), material cost analysis. Skill in: * Computer word processing for reports, correspondence, etc. * Planning, organizing and coordinating building construction program activities. * Designing and implementing architecture/engineering contracts. * Analyzing and interpreting architecture/engineering data. * Applying engineering quantitative techniques. * Monitoring and inspecting building projects. * Communicating architecture/engineering information effectively verbally and in writing. * Solving problems relating to architecture/engineering. * Establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with others. * Understanding and applying applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to: * Maintain a valid driver license. * Travel. Minimum Qualifications: * Maintain a valid driver license. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge in: * Architecture/engineering design, construction, production and/or operations. Skill in: * Design and implementation of architecture/engineering contracts. * Analysis and interpretation of architecture/engineering data. * Applying architecture/engineering quantitative techniques. * Solving problems related to architecture/engineering.
