Protection & Control Field Services Engineer/Associate/Technician, Levels 7-10 Company: Georgia Power Company Organization/ Department: Protection & Control (P&C) Field Services Support / Panel Quality Assurance - GPC4214 P&C PQA, Location: Trans Construction Bldg, 205 Southfield Parkway, Forest Park, GA Description This is a posting for Panel Quality Assurance (PQA) in P&C Field Services Support which provides high quality switchboard panels that meet SOCO design standards, assembled/wired correctly and thoroughly functionally tested. The types of panels include all substation protection relaying and control panels. This position will be filled at Level 7 - 10 Non-Exempt in the Protection & Control Field Services Engineer family, with the pay and level commensurate with the qualifications, education, and experience of the successful candidate. Summary of Position Duties + Safety and Quality are paramount in this position. + Review the control design of each capital project with Substation Design personnel and make changes as needed. + Plan, schedule, and coordinate panel testing with various departments such as Substation Design, Protection and Control, Switchboard, Planning & Projects, and Transmission Maintenance Centers. + Develop and improve procedures, checklists, guidelines, and processes for testing all relay and control panels. + Perform panel verification and provide work direction, oversight, and training to less experienced personnel performing this function including: + Verify that panels are wired as designed by using wiring diagrams and elementary drawings. + Test microprocessor relays and check inputs and outputs. + Electrically test the panel functions such as relaying, metering, indication lights, switches, lockout relays, test blocks, etc. + Download settings and configuration files, collect equipment data, and complete checklists. + Evaluate new relays, develop new test plans and procedures for new relays, and evaluate new standard designs. + Physical abilities must be able to move heavy panels, relays and equipment. + As opportunities occur, assist P&C Field Services personnel with commissioning relaying and control panels. JOB REQUIREMENTS Education Requirements: + 4-year BS/BET Degree in Engineering Math, Science, or Engineering Technology OR + 2-year technical degree in electrical maintenance, OR + Equivalent applicable experience (Examples: Substation electrician, technician, wiremen, electrician, etc.) Experience Requirements: + Electric power utility transmission construction, maintenance, or operations experience OR + Related substation experience (P&C Applications, Design, Construction, Major Equipment, Project Management, etc.) + Engineering drawings such as wiring diagrams, AC / DC elementaries, and logic diagrams. + Laptop computers using Microsoft Office products and specialized software. + Test equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, communications instruments, and computerized relay test sets. Be receptive to informal training opportunities and feedback. Other Requirements: + This position is in Forest Park, Georgia. Candidate must live within a commutable distance to the Forest Park area or be able to quickly relocate to this area.. + Safety sensitive position subject to relevant pre-employment and random screening(s) to determine fitness for duty. + Field position requiring the physical ability to operate manual switches and work in a substation environment. + Must be able to lift up to 30lbs unassisted. + Work environment involves panel inspection, assembling and disassembling in warehouse setting requiring lifting, moving, equipment over 20lbs. + Moving and using ladders, pallet trucks, power tools, tables, test equipment, etc. + Successful candidates will be expected to serve in an on-call for Storm Assessment capacity and be available to work outside normal business hours. + Limited Travel including some overnight travel. + Must have a valid Driver's License. + Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application. + Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record. + Must be able to pass the standard Southern Company background check, drug screen, and NERC background check.
