Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time Position Deputy Fire Chief of EMS Description Description: Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief of EMS will be responsible for overseeing, supervising, managing, and directing the administration and operation of the Saco Fire Department. Your role will ensure that our emergency medical services comply with professional standards and state and federal regulatory requirements. This includes managing EMS education, quality assurance programs, EMS supply programs, and EMS equipment maintenance. Your position will provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Fire Chief. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Please view the official job description for a complete list of duties. * The Deputy Fire Chief of EMS will be critical in developing, implementing, and monitoring a strategic plan for delivering emergency medical services based on established goals and objectives that ensure competent pre-hospital patient care. * Under the supervision of the Fire Chief and with the approval of the EMS Medical Director, establishes, implements, monitors, and revises the use of system-wide protocols, policies, and procedures for all patient care activities. * Supervises personnel by determining best practices, organizational policies, and procedures for staff recruitment, training, motivation, documentation, patient care, records administration, performance appraisal, job descriptions, staff licensing and certification, and disciplinary actions. * As part of the administrative team, assist with strategic planning and operational budgeting. Respond to fire and EMS calls in compliance with established SOGs and directives. Functions as the Incident Command (IC) on emergency scenes and as part of the IC structure. Shall participate in the on-call admin rotation and be able to respond within the Saco city limits in 30 minutes. * Manages the Division of EMS resources, i.e., medical supplies, treatment and diagnostic equipment, communications equipment, vehicles, and training equipment. Serves as the department's Designated Infection Control Officer. * Other Duties as assigned. Position Requirements DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS This position demands a dynamic and experienced leader who can integrate and manage multiple emergency response disciplines to safeguard the community effectively. Education and Experience * A minimum of ten (10) years of career experience in the fire service and pre-hospital emergency medical services, including supervisory and management roles or equivalent combination of experience and training required. * Associate's degree in Fire Science and/or Paramedicine; bachelor's preferred. * Fire Officer I & II, Certification Pro Board or Equivalent * Must hold and maintain a valid Maine Paramedic license. * Must hold or obtain Maine EMS Instructor/Coordinator certification within 12 months of hire. * Must hold or obtain a Designated Infection Control Officer Certificate within six months of hire. * FEMA NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400 and 700 * Vocational education to include but not limited to ICS/Fireground Command, Hazardous Materials, Marine Fire/Rescue Operations, Wildland Fire, and Special Rescue Operations * Must hold and maintain a valid Maine Driver's license. DESIRED MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS * Strong Leadership and Management skills * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to lead and coordinate emergency response teams * Experienced in budget management and financial analysis * Experienced user of Fire Services records Management programs, CAD interface with fire service operations, municipal budget programs, and Microsoft Office programs. * Proven fire service leader Education and Experience Close Date EOE Statement The City of Saco is strongly committed to diversity in its work force.
