Position Information Position Availability: Available immediately, open until filled. Position Title: Temporary Assistant Production Manager Requisition Number: 0206074305 Location New York City Position Type: Administrative Position Status: Temporary/Seasonal Department: Drama/Productions Responsibilities: The College of Performing Arts (CoPA) at The New School is seeking a qualified Temporary Assistant Production Manager (APM) to join its production team. The CoPA production department oversees all Drama Mainstage productions, Operas, Ensemble Concerts, and Class & Small Ensemble performances, as well as providing various levels of support for other CoPA activities, including meetings, lectures, workshops, and special events. The Temporary Assistant Production Manager is a compassionate and motivated administrator who prioritizes students and their experience at CoPA. This position will be a strong collaborator who can work as second on projects handling questions and problems as a proxy on projects. Opera APM should have experience with opera and music, familiar with the vocabulary, scheduling needs, and details that differ from a straight play. This person should be someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced, and highly team-oriented environment where priorities may shift, needing initiative, empathy, and flexibility. This is an onsite position with opportunities for some remote work throughout the year. Some nights and weekends are required. This is a 20 hour per week fixed-term position ending on May 16, 2025. The Temporary Assistant Production Manager (Opera/Drama) will report to the Producer of Theater and Opera. The APM will act as a second point of contact for multiple fall/spring projects, including but not limited to: School of Drama's fall and spring productions (BFA Mainstage, MFA Mainstage, MFA capstone) and Mannes Opera's fall and spring productions (Chamber Opera, Proscenium Opera, Opera Collaboration, Opera Sandbox, Scenes program, Opera Workshop). The APM will assist in scheduling and leading production meetings as well as communicating with creative teams, guest artists, CoPA production staff, and overhire. This team member will also be expected to assist in tracking expenses for individual productions including database entry and petty cash. The APM can expect to be the responsible party onsite for some work calls/ rehearsals both on and offsite based on a schedule determined in collaboration with the Production Managers. The New School is strongly committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and particularly seeks applications from members of underrepresented groups, as well as candidates who share this commitment Responsibilities * Assist Production Management and Producer, Theater and Opera with all Fall '24 and Spring '25 productions between contract date * Act as support to the lead production manager for the various Drama and Opera Production * Assist Full Time Production Managers and Producer to cover tech rehearsals/work calls as needed * Oversee overhires (student and temp employees) working on the productions * Ensure rooms are prepared for production meetings and create Zoom meetings. * Lead production meetings, including generating agendas and taking and distributing notes. * Oversee production calendars, reports, schedules and budgets Managing student conflicts and communicating said conflicts to stage management and CoPA Deans. * Ensure overhire production staff are following The New School's health and safety guidelines * Assist with Budget tracking and Database entry, Budget and Petty Cash reconciliation * Assist Producer with Onboarding documentation for Union and Non-union overhire * Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor. * Additional responsibilities as assigned To Apply * Applicants should submit both a resume and cover letter outlining their interest, skills, and experience concerning this position.. * Applicants not selected for hire will only be notified upon conclusion of the search process. Salary: * $28/hr Start Date: Tuesday, September 3, 2024 End Date: Friday, May 17, 2025 Average of 21 hours/week (minimum of 15 hours, maximum of 35 hours per week) Time Off will be unpaid, except for acquired and approved NYC Sick Time OFF: Below Dates and as requested * Labor Day * New Year's Day * Martin Luther King, Jr. Day * Presidents' Day * Memorial Day * Juneteenth * Independence Day * Thanksgiving Day * Friday after Thanksgiving Day * Winter Break (the period between Christmas and New Year's) * Time Off will be unpaid, except for acquired and approved NYC Sick Time Work Mode * Fixed Split Hybrid (minimum three days/week onsite with up to five days/week onsite as assigned or necessary for ensemble operations) * Some nights and weekends are required. * Night or Weekend Rehearsal check-ins at 55 W 13th Street or offsite locations as needed Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications * Two years previous experience (including internships/apprenticeships) in production, and/or stage management is required * One year of experience with Opera * Strong analytical skills and ability to develop creative approaches to complex issues. * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Interrogative and Independent style of working * Interpersonal skills that include management, teamwork and collaboration, conflict resolution * Time and task management skills, including re-prioritization and an ability to work graciously under strict time constraints * Understanding of the basics of the production process, with working understanding of the operations of Carpentry/Rigging; Lighting; Sound; Carpentry/Props; Costumes; and Video/Projections * Experienced or able to learn and develop fluency in The New School's suite of data systems including GSuite, WorkDay, Tableau, Banner, and 25Live * Maintain the health and safety guidelines provided by the New School * Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice, and the transformative power of the arts and education Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications * Experience in an educational or teaching environment * Experience with music production, and/or in film, media, and audio production Job Family: The New School Special Instructions to Applicants: Posting Date: 08/21/2024 Closing Date: Open Until Filled Yes
