Primary Activities and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to: Develop and implement fact-based track and infrastructure maintenance programs. Ensure compliance with safety and track standards in accordance with company policies and procedures as well as Federal Railroad Administration regulations. Develop and lead employee safety and training. Manage the operating maintenance and capital budget compliance for each project and property. Identify and execute infrastructure improvements to support the needs of the business and plan. Identify and implement processes and procedures to maximize productivity within the department. Coordinate and perform periodic due diligence for future acquisitions. Monitor conditions by conducting frequent property inspections; 50-75% travel required. Manage overall maintenance and engineering activities. Qualifications: Successful applicants will be asked to demonstrate the following: Must possess strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate employees. Ability to communicate effectively with senior management, employees, customers, other railroads, regulatory officials and the general public. Strong strategic management skills with the ability to manage multiple P&L engineering groups. In depth knowledge of FRA track, signal and bridge practices and standards, including CFR 49 Safety Regulations. Ability to understand and interpret safety rules, CRFR, AREMA and monthly reporting documents. Capable of formulating direction based on overall corporate strategic objectives. Knowledgeable and can understand and establish key performance indicators, KPI's and objective key results OKR's. Can understand and use key performance metrics in support of corporate performance expectations. Knowledge of asset utilization as it applies to the engineering department. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Effective business management skills with the ability to oversee and direct performance as evidenced in planning, budgeting, decision making, assessment, reporting and overall performance management. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook. Additional Requirements: Must pass all required assessments. Must pass a background screening. May require a post-offer medical examination, including drug and physical capabilities test. Strict disciplinary policy regarding inability to report to work within proper time frame, or failure to accept a call for work. Travel 50-75% Education / Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. 10+ years of field experience in railroad engineering and maintenance activities or the combination of a college degree in engineering and 5+ years of railroad engineering experience. Insurability requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and a 3 year driving history that is acceptable to our auto insurance carrier. As a key member of the management staff, assumes various additional projects as directed. The applicant selected for this position may be required to successfully complete a background check, health history review, and drug test. Passing results must be received prior to start date in new position. (Background check may include the following: Credit History, Criminal History, Driver License Record History, Education Credentials, Employment History, Reference Checks and Professional License or Certification review relevant to the position.)
