Job Summary The Reservoir Engineering Advisor provides expert guidance and analyses for further development and management of our large portfolio of deepwater assets. Maturation of drilling opportunities is a key part of the role, requiring close collaboration with a strong team of geoscientists to optimize developments whilst balancing risks and uncertainties within a fit-for purpose value assurance framework. Trouble shooting well performance problems and providing recommendations on workovers and stimulation treatments are also key. The role also includes working with Exploration on maturing and drilling near-field prospects and with Business Development on evaluating DRO's (Discovered Resource Opportunities). The Reservoir Engineering Advisor plays a pivotal role in enhancing strategic long-term planning. This individual is tasked with collaborating intimately with the operations team to spearhead and bolster initiatives aimed at comprehending the potential of resources, refining production, and advancing reservoir development strategies through comprehensive technical and economic evaluations. Additionally, this role entails the crucial responsibility of conducting SEC reserve assessments and forecasting the entire lifespan of the field. An integral component of this advisory position is the dedicated mentorship and collaborative guidance provided to junior team members, fostering their professional growth and contributing to the collective expertise of the team. The Reservoir Engineering Advisor will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remotely. Responsibilities * Work with multidisciplinary teams to create development plans for deepwater fields that incorporate risks and uncertainties in the development decisions * Provide expert guidance when trouble shooting well performance issues and provide recommendations on workover and/or stimulation treatments * Expert knowledge of classical reservoir engineering, including material balance analyses, PTA analyses and PVT analyses * Provide and maintain reservoir models in close collaboration with geoscientists to ensure integration of all relevant data. Advanced reservoir modelling skills and in-depth experience with uncertainty analyses and a combination of hands-on modelling and mentoring of colleagues will be required * Provide reservoir engineering due diligence when supporting business development opportunities of potential farm-ins and acquisitions * Interface with non-operating partners on project scope and provide regular project updates (schedule, costs, production performance, including discussions around technical understanding and differences of opinion), as well as keeping up to date on planning activities and their financial justification * Operations Support: Surveillance, analysis and recommendations of all subsurface engineering required for proper reservoir management of North America assets (Operated and OBO) * Ability to effectively tailor and deliver the main message during presentations on a given subject to the target audience, which can vary from the technical team up through senior levels of management within Murphy or partners * Plays a critical role in technical evaluation of investment opportunities as an active participant in both technical discipline and cross functional peers reviews to help projects mature through the value assurance workflow. Focus in this area will be to understand the reservoir, well design, expected performance, project economics, and provide the appropriate feedback and documentation as required * Technical leader helping to develop junior staff on classical reservoir engineering concepts and reservoir modeling best practices. Provides direction on training classes and experiences needed to complement in person coaching sessions and improve the technical expertise of staff * Keeps up to date on industry best practices and emerging technologies, making recommendations on how to improve our business through updated processes and new technology implementation. * Understands and supports larger organizational objectives and metrics, helping translate how those objectives are supported at a technical level to others within Subsurface * Values quality data and transparency, supporting initiatives to continually improve how data is stored, integrated, accessed and analyzed * Lead by example when supporting Murphy's Mission, Vision and Values in terms of behavior and interactions with other professionals both internally and externally Qualifications/Requirements * Bachelor's degree in engineering * Minimum 20 years' experience in Reservoir Engineering, 5 years' experience with deepwater fields * Proficiency in reservoir simulation, network modeling, pressure transient analysis, economic assessments, field development studies, uncertainty analysis, and exploration reservoir engineering support * Demonstrated experience with tNavigator/Eclipse, PTA/Kappa, PVT/PVTsim, ValNav or similar software packages Desired/Preferred Qualifications * Minimum 15 years' experience direct Offshore reservoir engineering experience, GOM deepwater experience PURPOSE We believe in providing energy that empowers people.
