NOTE: May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license or commercial driver's license. FUNCTION OF WORK: To assist in the repair and maintenance of Port office buildings, properties, facilities, docks, railroads, transit sheds, grounds, and appliances and to become familiarized with the operation and maintenance of mobile equipment used in these maintenance operations.   LEVEL OF WORK: Entry.   SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Direct from Port Facility Maintenance Foreman.   SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.   LOCATION OF WORK: May be used by all Port Authorities.   JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 2 by the absence of sufficient knowledge and skill to operate equipment and machinery and ability to perform maintenance tasks. Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 1, 2, or 3 - Roads  This position is in the Facility Services department of the Port of New Orleans Maintenance Division and reports directly to the Port Facility Maintenance Foreman. This position serves as a Port Facility Maintenance Specialist focusing on keeping green space, roadways, and properties in clean and orderly condition and equipment operation. This position participates in the required PORT training program and obtains additional training in order to facilitate the efficient performance duties and/or required tasks. This is a safety sensitive position that requires random drug screening throughout the year. The incumbent is required to possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Driver's License, Class A, or other state equivalent, and be knowledgeable and capable of the safe operation of various types of equipment required to fulfill the needs of the position and the PORT. The incumbent is required to have knowledge of the use of a UHF radio, which requires proper radio etiquette. The incumbent shall utilize a telephone, cell phone, two-way communication device, computer, and email to facilitate communications if required. The incumbent must be able to perform duties many times without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. Incumbent may be required to work overtime. May also be required to work immediately before, after or during a disaster. 40%        Heavy Equipment * Operates equipment with a combination of vehicles with a GVWR of 26, 001 pounds or more or any such vehicle towing a vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds GVWR to haul trash and to transport heavy equipment for dredge and bridge repairs, and transport rocks, sand, gravel and asphalt for roadway and parking areas over nonpublic and public roadways. * Operates large grass cutting equipment including tractor with bushhog. 30%        Other Equipment * Operates small grass cutting equipment including push lawnmowers, riding lawnmowers, weed eaters, etc. * Operates other equipment such as chainsaws, blowers, trash vacuums and pumps. 25%        Miscellaneous * Applies herbicide treatment to control vegetation and weed growth. * Cleans trash and dunnage from all port facilities including roadways, open lots, wharfs and other areas associated with port activities. * Sweeps various roadways and parking areas. * Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance to keep equipment in good working order using small hand tools. * Moves furniture, sets up site displays and performs other various tasks for main office building. * Performs basic road maintenance by clearing road drains, removing trees, spreading road surfacing material and filling potholes. * Helps dismantle buildings with various equipment, i.e. pry bar, sledgehammer, chainsaws, bobcat, etc. * Provides hurricane protection assistance. * Works as directed. 5%          Other Duties, including Emergency Support * Incumbent is required to perform a variety of tasks and assignments, as directed by the Supervisor, necessary to fulfill the mission of Facility Services Department and/or Port Maintenance Division.
