Description Under general direction of the Building Inspections Manager, the Building Inspector performs technical inspections to ensure projects are in compliance with adopted codes, ordinances and approved plans. Requirements * High school diploma or GED equivalent required. * Minimum of five (5) years' experience in construction related field required. * Valid State motor vehicle operator's license and acceptable driving record required. * ICC Building Inspector Certification (B1, B2) required within 12 months of employment. (probationary period extends until the minimum certifications are obtained) * Comprehensive knowledge of codes, ordinances and standards regulating building construction, including building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, fuel gas accessibility codes and standards * Ability to effectively apply knowledge of codes and ordinances to construction projects * Demonstrated abilities in the area of written and oral communications * Ability to communicate, interact and function effectively under stressful and/or confrontational situations * Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the development community, city staff and the public * Ability to analyze problems and identify workable solutions * Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications Please visit this site to view information about our comprehensive benefits.
