Session: Summer 2025 (May - August) Position Title:Intern - Revenue Analyst Hiring Manager: Derek Johnson Agency:Bureau of Finance and Management Location: Pierre Minimum Salary: $18.60/hour * APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER. The Bureau of Finance and Management (BFM) is a vital component of the State of South Dakota's financial operations. Our small but industrious staff work in five divisions: Budget Analysis, Accounting Analysis, Executive Management Finance Office, Financial Systems, and Internal Control. BFM is looking for a motivated individual to fill a Revenue Analyst Intern position in Pierre. The person chosen for this position will work as an independent contributor in a team environment and be involved in research and analysis of state financial operations, taxation, and economic policy. This position functions as a member of a team of professionals who provide budget and policy analysis services to the Governor in preparation of the state budget and on state policy issues. To fill this role, BFM is looking for a motivated and detailed-oriented individual. In addition to the duties stated above, the Revenue Analyst Intern will be responsible for: * Analyzing all sources of revenue that flow to the state general fund. * Studying the South Dakota econometric model and South Dakota tax model that forecasts future economic growth and future tax collections of key revenue sources. * Assisting in year-end unobligated cash calculations. * Assisting the budget analysts with year-end budget processes. * Participating in Governor's Council of Economic Advisors meetings, including preparing various presentations on the economic and revenue forecasts. * Additional ad hoc projects as they arise. Qualifications: Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply with a focus on economics, finance, or business administration. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program. All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions. Knowledge of: * analytical methods used in statistical analysis, modeling, and forecasting; * economic theories, principles, research methods, and techniques; * principles and practices of fiscal administration and budget techniques. Skill to: * communicate information clearly and concisely; * write technical reports or other documents based upon research, investigation, or analysis; * establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; * pay close attention to details; * develop recommendations designed to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
