Job Title: Museum Collection Assistant Department: Klamath County Museums Salary Level: $14.16-18.44 (Part-Time Position) Summary: The Museum Collection Assistant is responsible for a variety of clerical and administrative tasks related to the management of the Klamath County Museum's collection. Duties include scanning and editing images, cataloging museum objects, and occasionally serving as a front desk receptionist. This position works under the direction of the Museum Curator and the Museum Manager to support the preservation and accessibility of the museum's collections. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties may not be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned: * Reception and Customer Service: * Serve as the front desk receptionist or counter clerk, answering routine inquiries and providing information about the Museum Complex and local area to tourists and visitors. * Financial Record Keeping: * Post, balance, and maintain manual and computerized accounting records, including handling cash deposits and petty cash for all museum revenues. * Collection Management: * Complete accession files by cataloging materials and gifts as directed by the Museum Director or Curator. * Assist in cataloging museum objects and artifacts using PastPerfect or similar museum software. * Conducts research as needed on materials being cataloged. * Digital Imaging: * Scan photos and edit digitized images using Adobe Photoshop. * Volunteer Coordination: * Work with volunteers to coordinate tour guide training and scheduling. * Administrative Support: * Prepare forms, reports, memorandums, and other materials as needed, utilizing computer or typewriter. * File documents, prepare files, and index materials alphabetically or numerically; conduct file and record searches as needed. Qualifications: * Education and Experience: * Proficiency in operating basic office equipment, including computers. * Strong public relations skills are essential. * Training Period: * A training period of up to one month, excluding orientation, is required to become familiar with the special conditions of the job. * Language Skills: * Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. * Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. * Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. * Mathematical Skills: * Ability to perform basic mathematical operations and compute rates, ratios, and percentages. * Reasoning Ability: * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in various forms and solve problems with standardized situations. * Computer Skills: * Proficiency with database, internet, and word processing software. * Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: * Valid Oregon Driver's License required. Physical Demands: * Regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and communicate effectively. * Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, and stoop. * Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. * Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
