National Grid is seeking a Senior Designer for our team in Northborough, MA. Job Purpose The role holder is required to perform specialist electrical secondary (wiring) and primary design work to support the construction and successful completion of network/operational/ projects as part of the wider National Grid portfolio. At the higher levels, the role holder will take on more complex aspects of the design project as well as translating functional policy into working processes that will drive greater efficiencies for the project and the wider National Grid. Key Accountabilities * Work with Engineers and undertake specific tasks of varying complexity to support colleagues in other departments in the design of technical solutions. * Monitor and/or assess engineering and design working practices to ensure they are compliant with relevant regulations and revise standards as a result of recommendations by industry associations (e.g. IEEE, EEI, ANSI, etc.). * Ensure all equipment, machinery; tools etc. are used appropriately and according to instructions in order to ensure work is carried out safely and in line with National Grid policies and processes. * Develop material requirements, engineering design, associated drawings, and standards as required for successful completion of assigned projects. * Strong technical proficiency with relay protection, control and integration scope document analysis. Review and approve vendor-based trade prints to create design drawings to National Grid standards. Qualifications * Minimum Associates degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, plus a minimum of 5 years' related engineering and/or design experience is preferred * Technically proficient within engineering design and analysis. * Knowledge of one lines, relay and metering and current and voltage. * Strong working knowledge of Bentley MicroStation or AutoCAD, the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and other related guidelines related to engineering, design and operation. * Familiarity with Occupational Safety Health Act (OSHA) guidelines. * Must have a good working knowledge of tools and systems within designated area. * Attention to Detail: Reviews accuracy of own work/designs and checks that all details are completed to specification and can be used by others More Information Salary: $95,000 - $112,000 a year This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
