The Position Under general supervision, plan, organize, and present music and voice instruction which helps participants learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to educational development, creative expression, and social engagement This is a part time temporary contract position and incumbents are limited to working a maximum of 999 hours per year. Examples of Important & Essential Duties (included but not limited to) Duties and Responsibilities * Prepare class ideas, develop lesson plans, and establish goals for a variety of music and voice programs such as instrument instruction, vocal training, choir, band (rock, blues, jazz, etc.), music theory, composition, performance, etc. * Instruct participants in group settings of up to 16 participants at various ability levels in music and voice classes and workshops for all age groups as well as youth camps. * Provide appropriate instruction and activities for participants to meet objectives and enjoy the creative process. Lead classes through engaging teaching techniques that demonstrate clarity and creativity with encouragement for participants to reach their personal goals. * Coordinate with volunteers to assist with programs. * Select and requisition instructional materials; maintain inventory records. * Ensure that all spaces and classes are safe, welcoming, and inclusive to all participants. * Perform other related work as required. Essential Job Functions * Must be able to manage studio supplies, equipment, and instruments, as well as classroom and storage spaces. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. * Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things. * Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors. * Requires the ability to ready a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc. using prescribed format. * Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in narrative or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. * Requires the ability to conceptualize and create art form(s) and encourage creative flow while applying artistic principles. * Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with compassion and respect. * Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations. Minimum Qualifications Equivalent to a Associates degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Arts, Music or a related field plus four years of responsible recreation program experience including at least one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience. * Ability to instruct a broad range of music and voice programs such as instrument instruction, vocal training, choir, band (rock, blues, jazz, etc.), music theory, composition, performance, etc. * Experience developing curriculum for music and voice classes and workshops for all age groups as well as youth camps. * Experience teaching music and voice classes and workshops for all age groups as well as youth camps.
