Title: SOIU Compliance Officer DSP03532 State Role Title: Probation Officer Assistant Hiring Range: Annual Salary is $35,901 and is not negotiable. Salary is determined by the Virginia General Assembly. Pay Band: 3 Agency: Department of State Police Location: Augusta, Highland, Staunton, and Waynesboro, Virginia Agency Website: vsp.virginia.gov Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties About the Position: This position is responsible for the counties of Augusta and Highland and the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro. As a Compliance Officer you will assist the efforts of law-enforcement agencies and others to protect their communities and families from repeat sex offenders by conducting required verification checks to determine truth in address reporting for home and work and by completing and filing required reports; by protecting children from becoming victims of criminal offenders by helping to prevent such individuals from being allowed to work directly with children; properly registering sex offenders; educating sex offenders; and when a violation of law has occurred, referring the matter to a Trooper for investigation. You will also promote good public relations, participate in liaison activities with other cooperating agencies, and perform other tasks assigned by supervision to meet organizational requirements resulting in a functional unit. Minimum Qualifications * Willingness to learn and demonstrate understanding of the registration requirements of convicted sex offenders in Virginia. * Knowledge of judicial proceedings, case management, and the parole process. * Skill in operating a computer to include Microsoft software applications. * Demonstrated skill to operate a motor vehicle. * Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in English; to maintain harmonious working relationship with supervisors and the public; to make decisions independently by applying policies, rules, and regulations; to work independently, follow instructions, and pay close attention to details; and to identify community resources. * Valid Virginia Operator's License. * Progressively responsible law enforcement experience or any combination of training and experience indicating possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above. * High School Diploma or GED equivalent. * Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified within six months of hire, which requires either being a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization. Compliance Officers assigned to the Firearms and Sex Offender Investigative Unit (FSOIU) shall be assigned to a specific region and duty post by special order. Compliance Officer's residence shall be located within the assigned duty post or within 45 minutes from any border of their duty post boundary.
