Private Sale, Client Strategy and Object Intelligence Manager, 20/21 Global The Company Christie's, the world's largest Art Business, is an incredibly exciting & enriching place to start or continue your career. Primary Responsibility To facilitate the increase in private sale opportunities by providing Object Intelligence and Client Strategy support to drive sourcing for wish matching, assist with offering lists and strategic selling plans. The Role This role is primarily responsible for activating the incoming flow of sourcing and object intelligence requests in 20th and 21st Century Art Private Sales and providing client targeting ideas for the private sale pipeline, with a focus on the core market. Working with Post-War and Contemporary and Impressionist & Modern Private Sale teams, this role will manage the flow of object intelligence information and targeting requests to activate business opportunities and drive growth in private sales. This role will also be responsible for managing private sale information relating to the quality of our object data and our wish lists. The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and complete tasks with a high level of accuracy, as well as tasks of varying complexity. Key tasks will include both administrative management (e.g. managing wish lists, managing databases and inputting data into systems, etc.) as well as strategic sales support. The ideal candidate will also have strong analytical and interpersonal skills, and must handle confidential information with the utmost discretion. Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to Client Strategy * Provide targeting lists for core value works and join discussions about ongoing sale strategy * Add value by creatively adding suggestions of clients based on knowledge of collections * Manage the private sale wish lists: input all new client wishes; remove wishes that are no longer active; ensure the wishes are up to date for weekly reviews with the Private Sale team; systematically record feedback and actions against each wish following weekly reviews and the deployment of offering emails; provide wish communication for key department meetings and for any ad hoc requests; aim to make quick matches for wishes by suggesting floating or consigned works. * Work with Client Insights/Christie's Ventures to explore opportunities to automate or create efficiencies around the current private sale wish lists * Assist the Private Sale Senior Manager in keeping relevant 'collector lists' * Support client strategies for Selling Exhibitions by assisting with targeting outreach and debrief research and follow up * Search the internet and other publications for opportunities * Liaise with Private Sales Senior stakeholders in the Americas to update on outreach and note client feedback for future offerings Object Intelligence * Provide object lists for core value wishes identified by team * Work alongside the Private Sale Senior Manager in tracking the core value works we have floating or access to for private sale * Partner with the Object Intelligence teams globally and auction teams to ensure sourcing processes are channel agnostic * Proactively undertake exhibition research to identify new sourcing opportunities with a focus of blockbuster commercial gallery shows globally * Instigate sourcing meetings in partnership with the IMP MOD and PWC Object Intelligence teams and use knowledge of underlying owners to drive discussions. Work closely with the 20/21 Client Strategy Leads to formulate strategic approach for each owner * Ensure internal ownership records are accurately updated following transactions and that Object Intelligence information from private sales is added to and maintained in key databases * Partner with global Object Intelligence teams to drive the improvement of our data and our systems * Have a strong awareness of the 20th and 21st Century Art market and pro-actively suggest new focus topics and works to be reviewed Partnership with Auction teams and Ad Hoc tasks * Work with the Private Sale Senior Manager to proactively source for underbidders during key auction marquee seasons and use interest meetings to identify opportunities * Provide timely intelligence to the Private Sales team for immediate follow up to translate auction activity into private sale transactions * Support the team with preparation of the presentations for the auction debriefs following key marquee week auctions * Work with auction Heads of Object Intelligence in EMEA and the Americas to proactively suggest sourcing initiatives based on market intelligence and private sales trends The Candidate * Bachelor's degree in the fine art category preferred, or equivalent work experience. Master's degree preferred. * Minimum 1-2 years paid experience in the Arts. * Extensive knowledge of the Post War & Contemporary and Impressionist and Modern Art market. * Advanced knowledge of E-mail, Spreadsheet, Word Processing and Presentation software (Microsoft Office preferred). * Ability to learn Christie's systems including COS, Object Finder, Researcher Portal, intranet and website. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including superior written and spoken communication. * Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. * Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize. * Excellent follow-up skills with attention to detail and confidentiality.
