Posting Number 3629P Position Title Collections Assistant - 955 (Sewer & Stormwater) Department Utilities Job Code 02587 FLSA Status Non-Exempt Union Code/Affiliation Local 955 Division SEWER Job Description Summary The purpose of this job is to perform manual and semi-skilled work operating a variety of hand tools and light motorized equipment to assist with cleaning, inspecting, and repairing sewer and storm lines and systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description * Maintains sewer system; assists with cleaning, inspecting, and responding to requests for service. * Assists repair crew with structural repairs and hydro-excavation operation. * Operates hand and power tools. * Maintains lawns, sidewalks and parking areas. * Picks up and delivers supplies, parts, and materials. * Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. * Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities * Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others. Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered Education and Experience * High School diploma or equivalent. * No experience required Licenses or Certifications * Valid driver's license. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position Knowledge of: * Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment related to building trades. * Safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use and operation of motorized equipment and hand/power tools. Skill in: * Navigating and reading maps. * Operating motorized equipment and performing routine equipment maintenance. * Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience. * Applying active listening and asking questions for understanding. * Developing and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to: * Recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. * Operate a sewer jet truck, closed circuit television truck, and easement machine. * Perform heavy manual labor. * Use and maintain hand and power tools. * Retain information provided verbally and in writing. * Handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. * Focus on tasks. * Work on-call and respond at all hours of the day/night. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. * This position involves frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards and majority of work is performed outside or with exposure to risk. * Incumbents may be required to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. * Incumbent required to feel attributes of objects, grasp, push, stand, walk, drive, reach with hands/arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb/balance, operate mechanical equipment, and move up and down from/to sitting position on the floor. Hours/Days Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Stand-by duty is a requirement of the position. Stand-by is typically a week at a time and occurs approximately eight to ten times per year.
