ANNOUNCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Librarian - Youth Services Part Time Temporary - 19 hours per week Resume and Cover Letter Required Not eligible for all benefits, will accrue paid sick time Pay: $19.50/hour FLSA Status: Non-exempt Deadline to Apply: 09/19/2024 Work Schedule: * 19 hour per week position. Essential Duties: * Provides professional front-line reference, computer and reader's advisory assistance to youth, parents, caregivers and teachers * Assists with and presents programs for youth * Performs library tasks for which procedures are well established and under the supervision of the Lead Librarian Youth Services. This individual may be cross trained to provide reference, reader's advisory and computer assistance as needed for all patrons at the Ask a Librarian Desk on the 2nd floor. Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: Bachelor Degree required or Master of Library Science Degree from an ALA accredited library school preferred. One experience in a library setting and one year experience with children preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Ability to work enthusiastically with children and families. * Strong service orientation and excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Familiarity with literature for youth, from infants to teens. * Knowledge of library services, systems and procedures. * Ability to establish relationships with the public and provide effective customer service in a professional manner. * Knowledge of sources and materials in both print and electronic format and searching methods and procedures. * Ability to use computers, computer networks and online resources. * Experience helping novice computer users utilize common applications. * Experience assisting users with mobile devices. * Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other employees. * Ability to work with minimal supervision. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: * Most work is performed in a library environment, and some in community settings. * Must be able to lift, carry, and/or push materials including full book carts, book bins, and lifting tubs weighing up to 50 pounds. * Must be able to perform physically demanding duties involving repetitive standing, walking, reaching, bending, and stretching for long periods of time. * Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, laptop and/or tablet PC, telephone, e-reader, calculator, cash register, bar code reader, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement. * Sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person and over the telephone.
