Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic researcher to join our dynamic and growing team as a postdoctoral fellow. In this position, you will be responsible for advancing several projects in vision research focusing on the impact of diabetes on the retina and vision with special emphasis on neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation and its regulation by proteins and small molecules associated with crystallin proteins. You will work collaboratively with the other members of the team to ensure the characterization and processing of all samples from cell and animal models as well as human donor tissues in an efficient and timely manner. Responsibilities* The fellow will be responsible for managing their whole research project in collaboration with the PI. This includes but is not limited to researching literature, designing experiments, performing said experiments, drawing conclusions and planning next steps. This also includes presenting the data to the PI on a regular basis, the rest of the team during regular lab meetings, and at symposium, seminars and other conferences as needed and based on opportunities. The fellow is also responsible to prepare figures and manuscript for publications as well as grant applications for external support. The fellow will be also involved in management of less experienced members of the team (i.e. students) and in external collaborative projects and other big data analysis associated with various lab projects. Required Qualifications* * Education: Must possess a PhD in biological sciences more specifically in neurosciences or neurophysiology. Degree must be completed before the start date. * Experience: Must have knowledge of the retina and vision, and experience working on the retina and retinal cells in cell and animal models of retinal diseases. Must have also some experience with big data (omics) analysis. Desired Qualifications* * Animal work: whole eye and retina harvest from mice. * Cell culture: primary and cell line culture, transfections. * Molecular Biology: qPCR. * Biochemistry: Protein assays, Western blot, Immunoprecipitations. * Cytology: Cryo and paraffin sectioning of mouse and human retina, immunofluorescence on frozen/paraffing embeded retina sections, microscopy and image analysis. * Experience with statistical analysis, interpretation of results, compiling data for peer and PI review Modes of Work Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
