The Cornish College of the Arts Library is seeking an enthusiastic, service-oriented, and collaborative Library Specialist to join its staff serving the visual and performing artist community at the college. We welcome candidates who bring a cultural competency to support students, staff and faculty of varied backgrounds, capabilities, perspectives, social identities, and gender expressions. This position works in the areas of acquisition and cataloging and provides backup support to students, staff, and faculty. Founded in 1914, Cornish has multiple departments and the library supports all of them with reference, resources, and instruction. Students take classes in Art, Dance, Design, Film, Music, Performance Production, and Theater. It is known for its faculty of practicing artists who bring the arts to their students through hands-on work. The mission of Cornish is to provide students aspiring to become practicing artists with an educational program of the highest possible quality, in an environment that nurtures creativity and intellectual curiosity, while preparing them to contribute to society as artists, citizens, and innovators. Cornish realizes this mission by offering baccalaureate studies in the performing and visual arts and by serving as a focal point in the community for public presentation, artistic criticism, participation and discussion of the arts. Responsibilities: Catalogs and processes materials including: * Original and copy cataloging of books, scores, scripts, and sound/video recordings in MARC format using RDA and AACR II cataloging standards * Maintaining catalog records * Classifying according to LCC and using LCSH * Processing and labeling new materials for collection * Working with the Access Services Librarian, directs student assistant support for processing and labeling of new materials Acquisitions Processing including: * Placing orders for new materials as directed by the Director of Library Services * Working in the ILS Koha to create order records and update vendor records * Receiving orders in the Koha acquisition module * Working with vendors to resolve transaction problems such as returns and claims * Filing digital receipts * Updating/adding GL codes for credit card charges in online banking system and attaching receipts * Reconciling monthly credit card statements with receipts for the library * Reconciling monthly library charges on the Finance Office ledger with charges in the library accounting system * Working with the Access Services Librarian to order and process replacements for lost and damaged items Serials Processing including: * Monitoring title changes, and issuing claims in ebsconet * Setting up subscription records in Koha serials module as needed * Checking in serials in Koha * Shifting periodicals annually to backfiles Maintaining and compiling statistics in areas including: * Deaccessions * Serials General support including: * Providing back-up coverage for the circulation desk * Assisting with copy machine, library lab computers, printers, audiovisual and media equipment, and other public service equipment as added to the library * Picking up and sorting daily mail * Ordering office supplies and monitoring the supplies budget * Serving as back-up for processing reserves as needed * Writing and maintaining procedures for areas of responsibility * Performing opening and closing procedures as needed * Providing essential services backup as needed when other library staff are on leave * Completing other job-related tasks and special projects as assigned by the Library Director Minimum Qualifications * Undergraduate and/or advanced degree in the arts, humanities, or other creative field, or equivalent combination of education and experience * Recent MARC-based cataloging experience using RDA and AACR II cataloging standards and using software such as OCLC WorldShare Record Manager and original cataloging experience * Demonstrated commitment to antiracist and inclusive information work * Experience working with computers in a networked or cloud-based environment, including working with integrated library systems, online public access catalogs, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and standard office equipment * Ability to maneuver book carts, use AV carts, and handle oversized library materials up to 30 lbs. * A strong commitment to public service and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative and culturally diverse environment * Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills * Must pass background check Preferred Qualifications * Associate's degree for Library Technician and two (2) years related library experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience * Formal music or arts education and/or work experience in an arts or academic library * Knowledge of contemporary and experimental performing and/or visual arts * Experience working with the ILS Koha * Demonstrated broad knowledge of library materials and resources related to the visual and performing arts * Basic ability to read music * Some background in another language Department: Library Reports To: Director of Library Services Supervises: n/a Classification: Non-exempt; Full Time Pay: $24.00/hour Union: Position is represented by OPEIU Local 8 Application Procedures Please submit the following items to our email, Careers@Cornish.edu: 1) Cover Letter or Letter of Interest 2) Resume or C.V. 3) Cornish Employment Application Form Equal Opportunity Statement Cornish commits to demonstrating respect for individual expression and integrity; to promoting the equality of opportunity and rights of all persons within the community and to actively encouraging and maintaining the representation and inclusion of diverse cultures and backgrounds within the student body, faculty, staff and curricula.
