Department BSD SUR - OHNS: Thirty Million Words About the Department The TMW Center for Early Learning + Public Health at the University of Chicago develops, tests, and implements evidence-based interventions designed to promote very young children's cognitive and social-emotional development, with a priority placed on that of children living in poverty. TMW Center interventions are designed to be overlaid onto existing health, education, and social service systems working at scale in a given community in order to meet families where they already are. Our goal is to effect population-level change in children's academic and developmental outcomes. Job Summary The Research Data Manager (on-site) oversees major aspects of data management, data systems, and operations at the center. Ensures protocols related to data generation and storage are secure, efficient, and compliant with regulatory standards. Works closely with the tech team and research teams to develop standardized and scalable solutions to accommodate and organize data influx from various projects and partnerships. Responsibilities * Builds technical support and data systems for research projects. Receives, manages, prioritizes, and executes strategies for data architecture, data preparation, and data access for different teams and projects across the TMW Center. * Develops processes to automate and streamline data preparation. Develops comprehensive planning for data availability tied to external priorities, such as publications, presentations, grant applications, and grant/funder reports. * Provides guidance for the development of data collection tools and creation of databases. * Works with Primary Investigator, CTO, and Director of Research to develop data management solutions in response to updated priorities and new projects. * Forecasts staff and technical resources needs related to data analysis to meet goals and timelines. * Manages the preparation of data according to the project plan to ensure timely availability of accurate, cleaned, and comprehensive data sets for analysis. * Provides technical guidance for research collaborations as needed. * Manages and supervises the work of other members of the TMW Center, including students. * Manages collaborators' and partners' access to TMW Center data, ensuring that data are shared safely and retained according to TMW Center's and University of Chicago's policies. * With moderate direction from others, analyzes the users' requirements and solves routine database problems that ensures users and related applications can access necessary data sets. * Defines and interprets existing data and populates the database with new data from external sources. Plans own resources such as documentation on data models, data dictionaries, physical database configuration, and daily database maintenance functions. * Participates in the development of queries and retrieval systems. * Monitors the database storage system used to securely store and organize datasets. * Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. * -- Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. * -- Certifications: * -- Preferred Qualifications Experience: * Experience with data analysis using Python and SQL. Preferred Competencies * Excellent organizational, quantitative, and analytical skills with sharp attention to detail. * Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field. * Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse professional environment. * Ability to effectively manage a heavy workload, competing priorities, and tight deadlines. * Ability to adapt to changes in fast-paced work environment. * A quick, self-learner with ability to initiate, organize, prioritize and complete multiple, high-level projects; and work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. * Strong computer skills including ability to work with large data sets. * Ability to work both independently and as a team member. * Ability to train others. * Knowledge of REDCap. * Knowledge of University and research-related regulatory policies and procedures, including IRB procedures.
