Job Title: Preparator, Part-time Department: Exhibitions FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director, Exhibitions Grade: 4 Union: N/A Range: $20.22 - $24.73 General purpose: Installation and de-installation of artworks and technology in college exhibitions. Maintenance of departmental gallery spaces, shop and storage areas. Summary of Essential Functions: * High level, fast paced art installation with tight deadlines - requires quickness and accuracy. * Assist students with technology for installations * Handling, moving, transportation, packing of artwork Essential Duties & Responsibilities: * Install a wide variety of art works, including 2D, 3D, technology based (LCD projections, sound installations etc) * Gallery prep: sanding, spackling, and painting walls, pedestals and other gallery furniture as needed. * Gallery modular wall building * General gallery lighting * Move and transport artworks * Maintain care of art objects in gallery and storage areas * Maintain shop and tech inventory * Perform other related duties as assigned * Work alongside and guide/instruct workstudy students Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Knowledge of: Proper art handling techniques and safety * Knowledge of: Technology-based installations * Knowledge of: Basic computer skills - Email and Microsoft Office Word and Excel * Skills: Wall painting, preparation * Skills: Tools - ladders, drills, levels, hammer, hanging equipment, hardware * Skils: Organized, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks * Ability to: accurately measure * Ability to: communicate effectively, problem-solve, work independently as well as collaboratively * Ability to: work within tight deadlines * Ability to: work overtime during high volume installation/deinstallation times Minimum qualifications: * Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent * Experience: 2-3 years gallery or museum installation experience * Certifications/licenses: ladder safety training Preferred Qualifications: * Technology skills (installing tech related installations and problem solving) * Wood working skills (fabricating pedestals or exhibition displays) Reporting to this position: No direct reports Conditions of Employment: * Conditions: Full Satisfactory Background Check results * Work long hours, including evenings, and overtime as needed Physical demands and work environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Physical Demands: This position requires one to stand, walk, climb, push and sit. The employee must be able to lift and carry at least 40 lbs. comfortably. They must have the use of their hands for object handling, using tools and controls. They must be able to climb a 12' ladder. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. * Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. This position interacts with a wide variety of college and community members. The noise level in the work environment is usually (minimal, moderate, or high). * Required training: Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment.
