In the role of Environmental Scientist I, we'll count on you to * Work on a wide variety of environmental compliance and natural resources projects as they relate to water resources, transportation and development projects * Work under the supervision of mid-level and senior environmental scientist and water resource engineers * Take responsibility for assisting with environmental permits, NEPA documentation, biological assessments and other environmental compliance documentation * Assist senior and mid-level scientists in field work associated with the collection of natural resource data * Perform other duties as needed Preferred Qualifications * Preference given to local candidates Physical Requirements * Must be able to complete field site visits and record natural resource data in conditions that include sloped terrain, thick vegetation, and inclement weather * Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds without assistance * Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone and email * Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments * Work hours other than 8 to 5 which may include weekends and/or night shifts * Must have a valid Driver's License * Must be able to operate a motor vehicle day or night * Travel may be required at times Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences or closely related field * Knowledge of wetland delineation, field investigation techniques, and agency coordination requirements * Excellent writing and communication skills * MS Office experience * An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must What We Believe HDR is our company.
