GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES Performs professional and consultative work in planning and implementing a health education program in the Public Health Department. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS Employees in this class develop, organize, and implement a health education program to help meet the particular needs of the community.  Work includes developing educational programs, forming special committees and tasks forces, consulting with the private or other public sector agencies, serving as an instructor or media information sources, or coordinating activities with a variety of community resources.  Considerable independence in performing the work, establishing work schedules, and making decisions on program activities are present in the positions.  Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level community health education or program manager and is reviewed through conferences, reports, observation of program activities completed, and feedback from groups receiving the services. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Duties and Tasks * Provide educational services and information to the Guilford County community regarding opioids, Substance Use Disorders, overdose prevention, and harm reduction. * Assist with GCDPH naloxone distribution program * Attend community fairs and events to promote the DIP program (or other health education programs as needed) * Assist as needed with GOPEC (Guilford Overdose Prevention and Education Collective) activities * Assist with opioid settlement program planning and evaluation * Maintain up-to-date knowledge regarding Substance Use Disorders, trends and data, best practices for treatment of SUD's, and effective harm reduction practices * Build and maintain relationships with community partners such as non-profits, Guilford County Schools, healthcare providers, social service providers, etc. * Performs related duties as required. RECRUITMENT STANDARDS * Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities *  Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public health and public health education activities. *  Considerable knowledge of modem educational theory and techniques in the field of public health education. *  Considerable knowledge of graphics and journalistic principles and methods of preparing promotional materials, exhibits, and publications in public health education. *  Ability to design a variety of materials to promote a particular public health program. *  Ability to be innovative and creative in developing public health education activities. *  Ability to work effectively with a variety of people on all educational levels. *  Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with community agencies, private organizations, public sector groups, news media, and the general public. *  Ability to write and speak effectively and to stimulate interest and cooperation among various groups in implementing a public health education program. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in health education; or graduation from a four-year college or university and completion of one year of on-the-job training (OJT) as a public health educator. Preferred Qualifications: Lived experience with substance use and/or mental health College degree in public health, sociology, psychology, social work, or a related field Experience working with, or educating, youth and people under the age of 25 in a substance use and/or mental health setting Experience in public speaking and presentations Knowledge of drug overdose prevention and harm reduction strategies Trainee: Graduation from four-year college or university. * A Presentation Assessment  will be given for the position during the interview process. Driving is Essential  Driving is an essential requirement of this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business.  Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver's license and that the driving record is compatible with the county's driving criteria. If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County's vehicle use policy.
