Quality Control Specialist - Vogtle 3&4 It's an exciting time to be part of our growing organization. Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC), headquartered in Birmingham, AL, operates Southern Company's six nuclear reactors at three locations in Georgia and Alabama: four reactors at Plant Vogtle, near Waynesboro, GA; two reactors at Plant Hatch, near Baxley, GA; and two reactors at Plant Farley, near Dothan, AL. JOB SUMMARY: The successful candidate will coordinate the quality control activities of the QC organization regarding inspections, work order reviews, and surveillances to verify performance of testing activities to the requisite codes, standards, specifications and drawings. Qualification disciplines include: mechanical, electrical, I&C, civil, visual welding, VT-1, VT-2, VT-3, PT, MT, and UT (thickness). The Quality Control Organization has sufficient independence from other production priorities to bring issues forward affecting safety and/or quality. The successful candidate may make judgments regarding quality in all areas necessary regarding SNC's Quality Program. This position reports to the Vogtle 3&4 Engineering Programs Supervisor. JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES + Perform the day-to-day activities to ensure that satisfactory QC programs are implemented. + Responsible for carrying out the oversight surveillances on quality-related activities and ensuring that site activities conform to QC program requirements during the construction, testing, and operation of the facility. + Coordinate the reviews of project inspection planning documents to ensure that the appropriate elements of the Quality Program (e.g., critical characteristics for inspection) have been addressed, and will monitor the approved inspection planning documents for inspection characteristics source document changes (e.g., Codes, Standards, Specifications) for inspection plan updates for additional review and approval. + Observe and documents conditions regarding quality in all site areas. + Review work orders to ensure that inspections are planned and holds placed to ensure quality requirements are satisfied. + Coordinate with fleet peer team for opportunities to improve the quality control program. + Keep QC management informed of activities related to their area of responsibility. JOB REQUIREMENTS Education Requirements: + Associates degree of Science in Engineering, Math or Physical Sciences highly desired + Requires High School Diploma Physical Requirements: + Able to climb and crawl to access areas for inspection in hot or cold environments + Working at heights (i.e., scaffolds, lifts, and ladders) + Comfortable working in confined spaces + Able to work in protective clothing in hot and cold conditions + Must be able to safely lift and move inspection and examination equipment up to 50 pounds. Background/Experience Requirements: + Education and experience to allow certification under SNC as a Level II Inspector in accordance with NQA-1 (1994) required. Disciplines include: mechanical, electrical, I&C, civil, visual welding examination, VT-1, VT-2, VT-3, PT, MT, and UT thickness. + Previous NQA-1 or ASNT CP-189 Level II or Level III certifications desired + Excellent demonstrated oral and written communication skills required. + Engineering, construction, nuclear plant or military experience highly desired + Nuclear power plant construction or pre-service experience highly desirable + Previous outage planning and inspection experience desired Behavioral Attributes: + Must exhibit the Southern Style behaviors - Unquestionable Trust, Superior Performance, Total Commitment + Unquestionable Trust: Honesty, respect, fairness and integrity drive behaviors.
