Posting Number FAE1493 Advertised Title Post-Doctoral Researcher, Computer Science Campus Location Main Campus (Memphis, TN) Position Number 023558 Category Full-Time Faculty Department Computer Science Position Summary The successful candidate for this position will have the chance to conduct state-of-the-art research and development on topics related to dialogue-based tutoring system, natural language processing, and cognitive science. Specifically, the position is for the newly funded project iCODE: Adaptive Training of Students' Code Comprehension Processes whose goal is to develop and investigate a novel education technology iCODE (improve source CODE comprehension) that targets code comprehension, a critical skill for both learners and professionals . Job responsibilities include among others the following: participate in all aspects of a large-scale educational technology with an emphasis on research, development, and implementation; lead the research, design, and implementation of various components of a dialogue-based tutoring systems including but not limited to dialogue manager, semantic interpreter, question generator, student model, and domain model; help with the design, implementation, and data analysis of various experiments needed to fulfill the mission of the project; interact with members of the project team, supervise graduate students, publication and presentation; evaluate, install, and maintain software packages; and administer the computing infrastructure. Minimum Position Qualifications A PhD in computer science and/or cognitive science or related areas is required by the time of hiring. ABD candidates are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates should have a track record of computational linguistics and tutoring systems research. Experience with technologies in the areas of human language processing, machine learning, and virtual agents are needed. Knowledge of Java and Python and experience with cross-platform system administration is necessary. Special Conditions This position is for 12 months and is renewable for up to 3 years based on performance and availability of funding.
