In this role, you would be working on salty snacks like tortilla chips, potato chips, and popcorn across brands like Late July. We are looking for an individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, likes to be challenges, and values the opportunity to make a difference. Primary Responsibilities * Product Development Support: * Conducting ingredient screening in benchtop application * Batching formulas * Running pilot scale tests * Communicating formula observations to technical team * Documenting experiments * Ordering raw ingredients * Completing all safety and storage documentation on ingredients * Working in the lab, pilot plant and at a manufacturing site. * Technical Project Lead: leads the identification, assessment, and validation of formulations from bench top through commercialization with support and coaching from manager. * Works on the bench and pilot plant line to understand initial feasibility of new products and will conduct ingredient screenings during benchtop evaluation. * Prepares for pre & post trials via meetings, ingredient coordination, special batches. * Travels to manufacturing sites to run feasibility trials, consumer testing production, extended run trials, sales sample production and start production. * Conducts market sweeps to understand competitive landscape of specific projects. * Enabler and Quality Improvement Project Lead: Conducts assessment and capability studies supporting enabler/cost savings, quality improvement programs and supply chain continuity - Evaluates low/medium risk projects for feasibility including full plant trial responsibilities, documentation, execution, and reporting results. Confirms potential cost savings with cross functional partners (enabler, procurement & finance teams). Travels for coordination of plant trials. * Collaborates Cross Functionally - Conducts regular meetings to coordinate the tech community including R&D, supply chain and quality team members. Coordinate and lead cross functional tastings with business partners. Represents tech community during gating meetings. Demonstrated organizational and planning skills. Can develop and manage timelines that contain primary as well as contingency plans. Accurately assesses and communicates risks associated with programs to R&D and Marketing. * Systems: Ensures all proper documentation is done accurately and on schedule - documents all findings within internal lab notebook database system. Completes DOC (digitization of commercialization) in preparation for gating. Ensures all recipes are precise and accurate in formula system, Optiva. Responsible for completion of product specifications in partnership with quality. Ensures all RFCE documentation is complete for new incoming ingredients. Builds and manages ingredient databases. * Onboarding new Salty team members - sharing best practices and methods including lab/benchtop techniques, pilot plant procedures, ways of working Minimum Requirements * Bachelor's degree required from an accredited institution in science related field (Food Science, Engineering, or related field) * Handle allergens including dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, eggs and other food ingredient chemicals and allergens while wearing appropriate PPE. * Written and oral communication & Microsoft programs experience. * Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs Preferred Qualifications * Minimum 6 months industry-related experience with basic or Co-Op lab setting, preferably food related. * Salty Snack experience is a plus * Open, collaborative mindset and communication approach; Active listener. * Technical, culinary, and new product curiosity for food. * Creative problem-solving skills. * Highly capable with lab practices, running & improving test methods, material preparation, and batch assessment. * Ability to synthesize data, interpret, and provide recommendations. * Ability to learn Product Lifecycle Management systems including Optiva, etc. (training will be provided, any previous experience a plus). * Ability to travel as needed; estimated 30% . * Planning & Organizing Skills. Compensation and Benefits: The target base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between $47,600-$79,800 Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation. In addition, we offer competitive health, dental, 401k and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
