Summary * This is an internal recruitment for King County Metro Transit.* King County Metro Transit's Vehicle Maintenance Division is seeking to hire a Lead Transit Parts Specialist to fill a Special Duty Assignment through September 2025 (with the possibility of extension). We are accepting application materials from current career service Transit Parts Specialists who have passed their initial probationary period with King County. Metro is looking for leaders who exemplify safe work practices, have a collaborative work style, continuous improvement mindset, and a desire to lead Metro Trades work in a diverse and inclusive work environment. As a working lead, you'll perform the full range of responsibilities identified in the Transit Parts Specialist classification, and you will also assign, coordinate, inspect, and provide feedback on the work of Transit Parts Specialists while treating all Employees fairly, consistently, and in a respectful manner. Recruitment information: This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) Special Duty Assignment (SDA) Transits Parts Specialist-Lead vacancy at Ryerson Base, within Metro Transit's Vehicle Maintenance Supply Chain Management workgroup. This recruitment may be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates to fill future SDA Transit Parts Specialist-Lead vacancies for multiple locations that may become available within the Supply Chain Management workgroup. If created, the list would be active for up to 12 months, to be used at the discretion of the hiring authority. Forms and materials required: Applicants for this position are required to submit a letter of interest, an updated online King County application (which includes supplemental questions). Job Duties Applying equity and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. In addition to performing the full range of responsibilities of the Transit Parts Specialist classification, the Lead Transit Parts Specialist will also perform the following duties: * Assign and monitor work for Transit Parts Specialists who receive, inspect, store, and issue a variety of new and rebuilt parts, material, and supplies. * Train new and current personnel in required aspects of Supply Chain Management processes and safety procedures. * Assist in gathering and compiling data for surplus parts activity. * Receive, inspect, store, and issue a variety of materials, parts, and supplies. * Request stock transfer from other parts rooms for downed coaches; order special stock or supplies from outside vendors in emergency situations. * Verify shipments to ensure billing accuracy; check incoming stock against shipping documents, bills of lading, purchase orders and delivery receipts. * Use an inventory system to properly disburse parts to authorized personnel. * Maintain accurate inventory records and perform physical cycle count inventories. * Monitor work assignments to ensure work has been completed in a quality manner and inventory systems are properly maintained; ensure warehouse equipment is in safe and proper working order. * Implement continuous improvement measures. * Assist mechanics and other trade and craft employees to identify and locate needed parts. * At the direction of a chief, contribute to the development of policies for the respective work unit. * Provide feedback to supervisors on employee and teamwork performance, as well as any behavioral and attendance issues. * Coordinate with Transit Purchasing Specialists to assure adequate inventories of needed parts and equipment. * Perform other duties as assigned. Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills We are seeking candidates who possess the following minimum qualifications: * Must be currently employed as a career service Transit Parts Specialist at Metro Transit. * Knowledge of basic supply chain management purchasing procedures, applicable service standards, operating policies and regulations. * The ability to read and understand parts manuals and explain the information to others. * The ability to use information systems to answer questions from other users. * The ability to listen carefully to others with an open mind, and effectively give and receive feedback in a productive, respectful manner. * Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisory staff, direct reports, maintenance personnel, and vendors. * Excellent customer service skills that model Metro Transit's commitment to service excellence. including effective follow-through and probing techniques, and the ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships. * The ability to be attentive to detail, highly organized, and use initiative to solve common problems. * Proficiency in managing multiple competing priorities, as well as planning and scheduling skills to effectively direct workgroup efforts. Problem solving and critical thinking skills to make independent decisions. * Strong oral and written communication skills to direct and/or respond to a diverse group of individuals (e.g. employees, other base leads, internals, etc.). * Skill in working with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds. * Promote and model workplace safety, and train Transit Parts Specialists to perform their duties safely. * Demonstrated proficiency with business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word and Outlook) and proficiency in using Vehicle Maintenance's computer software work order system (to include data entry, extraction, parts receiving, and disbursement.). Desirable qualifications include: * Experience or skill in leading others, training, and providing technical assistance. * Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively manage conflicts. * The ability to teach inventory control procedures, inventory management techniques, and basic purchasing concepts to others. * Ability to lead or direct staff members in their work. * Proficiency in workload planning, scheduling, assigning, balancing, and tracking multiple projects. * Demonstrated understanding of continuous improvement principals. * Skill in facilitating creative ideas and solutions. Additional requirements: * A valid Washington State Driver License, and acceptable five-year driving record. * Employees must be able and willing to work any shift, including any combination of days off, at any location. * The ability to safely operate a forklift and other material handling/ moving equipment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: As a working Lead, this position's physical requirements match those listed for the Transit Parts Specialist classification: Requires the ability to regularly kneel, bend, squat, reach above and below waist, push and pull as well as lift and carry up to 50 pounds up to 100 feet. Occasional lifting and carrying, with assistance of items up to 100 pounds is also required. For employees that may have worked less than 1,200 hours per year due to protected leave, records will be reviewed beyond twenty-four (24) months for the equivalent amount of leave time. * Employees with an annual performance appraisal rating in the previous twenty-four (24) months lower than 3.00 (satisfactory) will not be considered for this recruitment. * Applicants with a record review totaling fifteen (15) or more points will not continue in the selection process.
