Saint Vincent College seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Director/Curator of the Verostko Center for the Arts (VCA). This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of a vibrant arts institution dedicated to advancing and integrating the arts within the Saint Vincent College community and beyond. About the Verostko Center for the Arts: The VCA is a 5,000+ square foot facility hosting rotating exhibitions that showcase work by contemporary artists and selections from Saint Vincent's impressive permanent collections. The Center cares for over 4,000 objects ranging from ancient to contemporary in various media, forming the permanent art collections of Saint Vincent College and Saint Vincent Archabbey. Resources include the Saint Vincent Heritage Collection, the Wagstaff/Verostko Legacy Collection and Archives, the Roman Verostko collection of Chinese Art, the Michael and Aimee Rusinko Kakos Collections, the Pitassi Stained Glass Studio Archive, the Tadeusz and Anna Kozminski Collection of Asian and African Art, and the Art and Kay Rooney Steelers Collection. The director/curator will also steward the Anna and Fred P. Moore, PhD, Forum for Art and Spirituality. This fund, in combination with the funds associated with the Center's collections, supports Verostko Center programming and events. In addition, the Verostko Center enjoys a close connection to the College's archives and rare book collection, the McCarl Coverlet Gallery, and the Craig Felton, PhD, Art and Art History book collection. Position Overview: As Director/Curator of the Verostko Center for the Arts, you will play a crucial role in advancing Saint Vincent College's artistic mission and enhancing its cultural footprint. This position offers the opportunity to curate compelling exhibitions, manage significant collections, and develop innovative programming that resonates with diverse audiences. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of the VCA's operations, from exhibition planning and collection management to educational initiatives and community outreach. You'll work closely with a public outreach and programming coordinator, the McCarl Coverlet Gallery, and with faculty, students, and the wider community to fulfill the Center's mission of serving as an educative and inspirational hub. Additionally, you will contribute directly to the academic life of the college by teaching one art history course each semester (instructor or assistant professor rank, depending on qualifications). This teaching responsibility allows you to share your expertise with students and further integrate the VCA into the college's educational mission. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of artistic vision, administrative acumen, collaborative spirit, and teaching ability to this position. You'll be tasked with preserving and promoting Saint Vincent's rich artistic legacy while also identifying and showcasing contemporary voices that align with our mission. This role requires a leader who can balance the day-to-day operations of running a vibrant arts center with the strategic thinking needed to elevate its profile and impact. Key Responsibilities: * Curation: Conceptualize and organize exhibitions, researching artists and artworks, maintaining relationships with collectors and artists, and ensuring each exhibit tells a cohesive narrative or explores a compelling theme. Develop and facilitate scholarship on the collections and serve as the public face of the institution through giving talks and tours. * Public Access/Education: Strengthen Saint Vincent's commitment to the arts through exhibitions, programming, and campus-wide art placement. Supervise the VCA's daily operations, collaborate with other departments, work with the programming coordinator to facilitate community outreach. * Organize Storage, Cataloging, and Accessibility of Collections: Coordinate appropriate accessioning and storage for the growing permanent collection and archives, collaborate with other Saint Vincent archives and collections, maintain provenance records and research materials, and make works accessible for viewing, scholarship, and potential loans. * Conservation: Supervise conservation efforts, ensure proper framing and storage, arrange for professional documentation, and address environmental concerns in exhibit and storage spaces. * Teaching: Teach one art history course per semester, connecting students with the College's Craig M. Felton, PhD, Art and Art History reference collection. * Budget and Personnel: Administer the budgets for both the Verostko Center and the McCarl Coverlet Gallery. Oversee the Curator of the McCarl Coverlet Gallery/Assistant Director of Collections, Public Outreach and Programming Coordinator, and manage student workers. * Media Communications: Collaborate with marketing office to promote VCA activities, create and disseminate publicity materials, and maintain the Center's online presence. * Donor Relations: Maintain relationships with key donors and cultivate potential new donors. Qualifications: * Master's degree in art history, museum studies, or a related field; PhD preferred * Minimum of 3 years of experience with a consistent pattern of expanding responsibilities in a museum, arts institution, gallery, or related area * Proven track record of curating exhibitions and managing collections * Working knowledge of contemporary art and art history * Experience in arts education and interdisciplinary programming * Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills * Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders * Strong organizational and project management skills * Attention to detail and meticulous presentation of materials * Passion for arts education and community engagement * Understanding of liberal arts education and its values * Appreciation for intersection between arts and spirituality, especially as expressed in Catholic material culture * Experience with or willingness to learn budget management, grant writing, and fundraising How to Apply: Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and three professional references to [insert application details].
