Perform preventative and corrective maintenance to the water and sewer systems.  Perform other tasks as required. Schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm, nights and weekends as required and on-call every third week. * Perform preventative maintenance to sewer mains. * Repair meter leaks and water main leaks. * Investigate customers` complaints. * Relieve sewer stops. * Refuel; replace hoses, sewer rods, etc.on all equipment * Flush water mains as needed. * Investigate water main leaks and sewer leaks. * Perform minor maintenance to equipment. * Record keeping and paperwork. * Repair sewer mains and services. * Assist construction crews when needed. * Remove and set water meters. * Utilize computer based work order systems. * Repair and replace end of main cleanouts. * Remove and replace manhole ring/lids and grout. * Operate fire hydrant to flush as required. * Employee will have direct supervision over one laborer. * Must be able to speak. understand, read and write English. * Must have working knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in maintaining a water and sewer system. * Must be able to communicate using a two-way radio: to understand oral and written instructions; to work independently: to effectively communicate with customers and co-workers: perform shift work, after hours, weekend work and rotating call duty. * Must be familiar using light to heavy duty trucks, pickups, and trailers; sewer rudder; high pressure water jet rigs, vactor unit trucks: combustible, hydraulic, electric, and hand pumps; power tools, cutters, saws, hammers, compactors, and basic hand tools: electronic locators, gas monitors, and detectors. * Must have own transportation and telephone. * Must be able to bend, stoop. kneel and walk up to 5 hours daily; lift and carry up to 100 lbs 4 hours daily: occasionally push and pull up to 100 bs I hour: occasionally twist and climb I hour; must be able to grasp objects. have good eyesight with good color vision, and be able to speak clearly. * Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Must have over (3) years of experience in repair / preventative maintenance in a related field. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Must possess a TCEQ Class "III" wastewater collection license or have the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment. Must possess a valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License, with clear driving record. May be required to work an on-call rotation as needed, and may have to work weekends and nights as required. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.   The City of Tyler supports a policy of a drug and alcohol free workplace.  All candidates are subject to pre-employment testing, which may include, but is not limited to, Drug and Alcohol Screenings, Work Fitness Evaluation, Criminal Background Check, and Consumer Report/Credit Check.   No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any regular full-time position. Persons under eighteen (18) years of age may be employed in temporary or regular part-time positions, if they furnish the City with a minor's release (Form 2-2) and are approved by the City Manager.   No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any position requiring the operation of a City motorized vehicle.
