Dallas Baptist University seeks a Public Address Announcer for Volleyball and Basketball (Division II). The selected candidate would also serve as a backup PA Announcer for Baseball (Division I). Good work in Volleyball and Basketball will likely lead to additional opportunities on the microphone in other sports offerings.
Summary
A Public Address Announcer conveys information to the patrons in attendance at assigned sporting events as approved by the organization. As the stadium, arena, gymnasium or field voice of the organization, this individual shall enhance patron experience through judicious inflection, concise coherent announcements, articulate script/copy reads and accurate name pronunciation using the house-supplied public address system. Their performance and behavior will directly reflect the organization and will require them to always compose themselves as responsible professionals.
Responsibilities
Articulate all organization scripts and commercial/sponsor copy.
Accurately pronounce all organization and competitor names.
Announce all pertinent game/match/event information as associated with assigned sport.
Enhance game/match/event day experience using limited inflection as directed by administration.
Retain extensive knowledge of the rules of the assigned sports.
Interface with administration/game operations throughout game/match/event regarding special announcements and changes.
Interface with the officiating team throughout the contest(s) when necessary.
Calmly enunciate any emergency announcements as provided by administration.
Refrain from all commentary as might be provided by play-by-play/color broadcasters.
Arrive prepared ninety (90) minutes prior to any game/match/event.

Public Address Announcing at High School/NAIA/NJCAA Level (5+ Years, Helpful).
Public Address Announcing for Volleyball and Basketball (3+ Years, Required, 5+ Years, Preferred).
Public Speaking in venues with 100+ Patrons (1+ Years, Required, 3+ Years, Preferred).
Working in Busy and Crowded Press Box/Scorer’s Table Environment (1-3+ Years, Preferred).
Working in a Live Broadcast Environment (1-3+ Years, Preferred).
Education
High School Diploma (Required).
Associates, Bachelors or Masters Degree (Preferred).
Communications, Broadcasting, Public Relations or related.
Certification
NASPAA – Certified Public Address Announcer (Helpful).
National Speakers Association – Certified Speaking Professional (Helpful).
Toastmasters International – Accredited Speaker (Helpful).
