Interim Director of Support Services (Transportation) Position Location: District-Wide Primary Work Site: Central Office Reports to: Superintendent Terms of Employment: Through December 20, 2024 Classification: Non-Certified FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, eligible for overtime and benefits Job Goal: To provide a safe and efficient pupil transportation program. Qualifications: * High School Diploma. Associates Degree in related areas is preferred, but not required. * Experience in Transportation, Logistics, and/or Supervision of Personnel * Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities * Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Essential Functions and Performance Responsibilities: * Conforms with all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation. * Oversees all daily bus routes for the school corporation and updates such routes, as needed. * Recruits, trains, and supervises all transportation personnel, and makes recommendations for their employment, transfer, promotion and release. * Directly supervises the garage and preventive maintenance operations. * Effectively communicates with parents, drivers, and related school staff. Communications regarding transportation are appropriately prioritized and resolved. * Advises superintendent on road hazards for decisions on school closings during inclement weather. * Cooperates with school principals and others responsible for planning school trips. * Oversees the effective administration of a pupil transportation program that meets all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities. * Takes an active role in assisting principals and drivers in solving discipline problems occurring on school buses. * Maintains safety standards in conformance with insurance regulations. * Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings. * Advises the Superintendent on specifications and recommendations for future equipment, including new or used school owned buses. * Advises the superintendent on the preparation of the pupil transportation budget, if requested. * Advises on the specifications to be incorporated in contractual agreements, if requested. * Advises on the monitoring of all fleet and local contracts for compliance with the specifications and/or agreements, if requested. * Such other duties and responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned by the superintendent. Other Physical and Mental Job Specifications: The position may require infrequent moving of moderately heavy objects and jolting, as well as extended periods of computer/phone use, sitting, bending, kneeling, reaching, standing, and/or stooping. Exposure to unpleasant and noxious fumes and/or odors, as well as noise and vibration, may occur. Work environment will be a combination of indoor and outdoor.
