Position Overview In collaboration with the Nursing Director the Assistant Nursing Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the Medicine Behavioral Health unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The Assistant Nursing Director fosters associates commitment to improving quality, safety, and cost-conscious patient care outcomes. This role offers the chance to direct and coordinate the nursing and patient care delivery of the unit-based professional and support personnel. Unit Highlights Nurses on 2C care for variety of acutely ill medical- surgical and behavioral health adults and their families. Patients on this unit are admitted with a variety of diagnoses as well as behavioral health diagnoses. It is a great unit to gain experience as a medical-surgical nurse and be exposed to a wide variety of nursing skills and patient populations. The 2C nurses work closely with the hospitalists, psychiatry, medical-surgical residents, physical/occupational therapists, and social workers with the goal of providing safe and high- quality care to our patients. Nurses seek to improve care for medical-surgical and behavioral health patients through nurse-led, evidence-based principles, tools, and education. This 31-bed unit is a great place to become an expert Med/Surg nurse and be exposed to a variety of surgical nursing skills. Key Responsibilities In collaboration with the Nurse Director, develops department goals, objectives and ensures compliance with hospital policy and procedure, clinical practice, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. Provides shift-based clinical leadership through role modeling professional practice behaviors, proper delegation of activities, and management of the nursing team and promotes unit activities that enhance department satisfaction an engagement. Collaborate with the nursing leadership team, Medical Staff, and leaders of other departments/disciplines to ensure seamless patient care. Participates in patient rounding to review patient status and connect with patient and family. Collaborates with the Nursing Director in the hiring, evaluation, promotion, and termination of personnel within the department as needed and initiates coaching and counseling of associates. Maintains clinical knowledge and skills and engages in the provision of direct care for a caseload of patients as required. Assumes administrative responsibilities in absence of the director and as needed provides coverage for other colleagues.
