POSITION SUMMARY AND EXPECTATIONS: The primary purpose of this position is to organize and coordinate all aspects of the Unified Sports Program, including the duties of any assistant coaches or volunteers, as well as perform coaching duties for one or more designated teams. A primary focus is the establishment and maintenance of a positive and respectful learning environment and working relationship with students, staff, administration, parents/guardians, and community members. Work in collaboration with Woodburn High School athletic director, Student Services Department, Special Education case managers, Unified Sports coaches, Unified PE teacher and Special Olympics Oregon. Responsibilities include the function, growth and expansion of Unified Sports opportunities in Woodburn School District. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Age 18 or older. Background and Criminal History Clearance. First Aid and CPR Certification. ASEP Certification (High School only) Note: A non-certified coach may coach with a certified coach for one (1) sports season, but must be certified prior to beginning a second season in any sport. Knowledge of rules and coaching strategies for assigned sport. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Recruit students with intellectual disabilities to participate as Unified Sports athletes, including supporting students and families with completing paperwork to participate in practices, games and tournaments Recruit students without intellectual disabilities to participate as partners, including supporting students and families with completing paperwork to participate in practices, games and tournaments Recruit coaches to lead Unified Sports Team Complete and send all required paperwork to Special Olympics Oregon for participation in tournaments Use data management and tracking of paperwork, online team registration, team jerseys and equipment, and staff extended hours Complete facility requests and transportation requests Communicate with other Unified Sports Coordinators to schedule away and home games Attend Special Olympics Oregon required meetings and trainings Facilitate Respect Week Campaign and other Unified Champion School requirements to work toward becoming a Unified Champion School Facilitate participation in soccer and basketball, and possibly track Required to coach in English, Spanish, and/or Russian depending on assignment. Communicates effectively and appropriately in both oral and written form. Schedules and conducts regular practice sessions to improve skills and knowledge of the athletes and team in general. Models good sportsmanship and enforces appropriate team rules and team discipline. Adheres to athletic eligibility requirements, District Athletic Handbook, league or association SOPs, and applicable OSAA rules. Supervises and/or arranges for proper supervision of athletes during practice, games, travel, and any related activities. Coordinates the duties and responsibilities of any volunteers. Provides program information to parents and notifies media of program and contest information. Monitors proper use, care, and return of uniforms and other assigned equipment, and submits rosters and equipment inventories as required. Consults with the Athletic Director/Coordinator on a regular basis regarding individual, team, or program issues or needs. Establishes and maintains appropriate standards of student behavior and maintains order in a consistent and fair manner. Notifies and involves parents/guardians regarding a student's behavior in accordance with school and District requirements. Follows all safety rules and takes all reasonable precautions to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all assigned students. Demonstrates support for District Core Values, District Mission, District Strategic Plan, and Schoolwide Improvement Plan. Collaborates and confers with students, parents, colleagues, and community members in a harmonious and respectful manner. Assists parents and community members as needed. Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural and multilingual values and environments. Complies with professional development activities as required by the District. Actively seeks out and participates in professional development activities designed to improve professional competence. Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving information or sharing information and expertise with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians. Holds expectations for high performance of self and students. Assesses results of performance for improvement on a regular basis. Demonstrates computer literacy and operates software programs as related to job responsibilities. Maintains accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law and District policy and regulations. Maintains the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleague, or district patron, and uses or relays academic, social, or personal information only in the course of performing assigned responsibilities and in the best interest of the individuals involved. Follows all laws, District policies, rules, regulations, memos, announcements, and reasonable requests by proper authority. Adheres to the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) Standards for Competent and Ethical Educators (licensed employees). Maintains regular attendance at work and work activities, and is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: The employee is expected to be dressed and groomed in a neat, clean, and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting. Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations, depending on assigned sport. Extreme variations in weather and temperature can occur. In cases in which the employee is required to travel between sites, the employee is responsible for his/her own travel and will be reimbursed for approval mileage. Possible exposure to bodily fluids due to student or employee illness or injury. Required to obtain a First Aid and/or CPR Card and serve as a Delegated Caregiver or Designated First Aid Provider. Occasionally performs other duties as required by supervisor.
