Position Summary: Responsible for pre-analytical processes for waived or moderate complexity clinical laboratory tests under CLIA, performs associated administrative quality procedures, performs instrument maintenance, and maintains appropriate and accurate documentation. Major Position Responsibilities: The position characteristics reflect the most important duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential functions of the job in a fully competent manner. The characteristics of the position and standards of performance may be changed by TCMC with or without prior notice based on the needs of the organization. * Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements. * Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, ensures appropriate specimen type and quality for test analyses. * Manages department inventory appropriately, in partnership with the laboratory section leader. * The following responsibilities are performed while in dedicated training sessions under direct supervisor of a licensed clinical laboratory scientist: * Appropriately prioritizes and performs accurate analysis of patient specimens at a speed and volume consistent with the turnaround time goals of the department, validates test results using reference ranges, instrument flags, clinical correlation, and evaluates critical values prior to reporting results according to laboratory policies and procedures. * Perform analysis of Proficiency Testing samples integrated into patient workload and maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples. * Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities according to laboratory policies and procedures. * Perform and document instrument maintenance and troubleshooting and procedural calibrations according to laboratory policies and procedures. * Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: * Minimum one (1) year experience in a clinical laboratory, preferred. * Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and customer relationship skills, required. * Demonstrates strong laboratory technical expertise and problem solving skills, required. Education: * Actively enrolled in a MLT program OR has an active CLS Trainee license, required. Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work. * Salary/Hourly wage range for this position is posted.
