Job Description: General Statement Under the direct supervision of the Surgical Technology Program Coordinator, the lab assistant will observe and provide feedback to students performing surgical procedures and techniques in a non-patient contact environment. Supervision Received Reports to Surgical Technology Program Coordinator Supervision Exercised None Duties and Responsibilities * Ensures students are using proper techniques of disinfection, sterilization, and antisepsis. * Prepares demonstrations, organizing supplies/equipment. * Assist instructors with demonstrations and monitoring of student performance. * Notifies the Surgical Technology Program Coordinator of equipment repair, maintenance, and replacement needs. * Ensures surgical technology lab in compliance with college safety policies. * Provides feedback to students during lab demonstration of lab skills. Lab skills include positioning, scrubbing, gowning, gloving, establishment of a sterile field, and proper use utilization of instruments, supplies, and equipment. * Monitors students using laparoscopic simulation. * Maintains documentation of skills as required by program accreditor. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications * Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency: * Be credentialed as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA); * Have a minimum total of two years of experience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology (or a combination of both) within the past five years; * Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) Preferred Qualifications * Previous experience working in an educational setting as a lab assistant Additional Information: Quinsigamond Community College is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability, religion, age, veteran status, genetic information, gender identity or sexual orientation in its programs and activities as required by Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and other applicable statutes and college policies.
