Summary Summary With a growing portfolio of residential property parcels, King County's Department of Assessments is looking for interested applicants to apply for the Senior Appraiser position in our Residential Division to supervise Residential Appraisers who determine true and fair value of residential property for tax-assessment purposes. Job Duties The successful candidate will at a minimum demonstrate skill and ability to: * Lead, supervise, manage, and coordinate staff, providing evaluations of the quality and quantity of work. * Plan and provide oversight for the annual valuation process which involves the analysis and review of appraisal valuation models to achieve assessment consistency, equity, and equalization. Ability to use metrics and analytics to drive work success. * Provide critical analysis and review of technically complex properties for tax assessment purposes. The work performed by the Senior Appraiser requires the application of a wide range of appraisal knowledge, principles, techniques, statistics and statistical model building, building construction knowledge, workmanship, materials and departmental procedures. * Prepare and review appraisals of a comprehensive scope requiring adherence to RCWs, WACs and appraising procedures, ensure equitable and consistent determination of value according to Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills We are looking for skilled and experienced applicants with: * Skill in providing supervision and oversight to staff to include planning, coordinating, and providing direction to team leads and members as well as monitoring accomplishment of day-to-day assignments and encouraging consistency, collaboration and teamwork. * Ability to manage the district's annual valuation process and collaborate with other senior appraisers to define and promote the goals and aspirations of the division and department * Ability to lead, coach and support employees in your section, and the division as needed, * Ability to provide general or specialized technical information to your team and the public regarding property assessments, mass appraisal activities and requirements, and property related information, * Skill at interpreting Washington State RCWs, Washington Administrative Code, Professional Appraisal Standards, and valuation guidelines to respond to internal and/or external customers over the telephone, in writing and/or in person, In addition, any combination of education and/or experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position, and: * Have experience as a King County Department of Assessments real property appraiser II or other recent residential property appraisal experience and satisfactory completion of 105 hours of appraisal course work OR any equivalent combination of recent and relevant education and/or experience. Verification of successful completion of courses is required. The following are required as a condition of employment as a Senior Appraiser: * Possession of an Assessor's Accreditation Certificate as required by the state of Washington or the ability to obtain accreditation within twelve (12) months of hire. * Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Driver License; and * Ability to use a personal vehicle in the performance of field work assignments. A successful background check and reference review and pre-employment physical examination. The work associated with this position will be performed both in-office and remotely. WORK LOCATION: The primary work location for this position is the Black River Office Park, 900 Oakesdale Ave. SW, Renton, WA. A combination of remote telework and in-office work is currently required for this assignment. Field work is also a requirement for this position. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed mainly in an office and remote telework setting, and there will be field work also required to inspect properties throughout King County.
