NATURE AND SCOPE: Under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Operations and Outreach, the Food Service Manager is responsible for guaranteeing that the children are served nutritious, good tasting, and appealing meals and snacks RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to): * Plan and prepare food in accordance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP/SFSP) food service, menus, and recipes. * Purchase food and supplies necessary to prepare the planned menus for the number of children in the programs we serve. * Plan meals far enough ahead to minimize the need for food substitutions; when substitutions are necessary, with prior approval, purchases and serves food of equivalent nutritional value. * Keep and maintain records required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP/SFSP) and the YMCA. * Maintain established standards of sanitation, safety, and food preparation and storage as set by the local and state health departments; maintains an orderly, sanitary, and safe kitchen. * Maintain cost control, budget and inventory systems based on CACFP/SFSP procedures including records of food production, service and attendance. * Assure the proper care and maintenance of all food service equipment; identifies equipment needs for food preparation and service and assists in purchasing as needed. * Participate in all emergency drills and environmental safety activities. * Attend and participate in all trainings and other continuing education, career, and professional development opportunities. * Participates in self-evaluation process and grantee monitoring visits and comply with any applicable Program Improvement Plans. * Participates in general staff meetings and other meetings and events planned by the grantee as requested. REQUIREMENTS: * Must have a High School Diploma * Must be 21 years of age * Must be able to obtain ServSafe Manager Certification within 30 days of employment * Have prior experience in the food service industry as a Head Cook or Chef * Must pass a Bright for the Start (BFTS) background check and MVR for driving a YMCA vehicle PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: * Have prior experience in the food service industry as a Head Cook or Chef * Supervisory experience Ergonomics: Bending, stooping, standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, seeing, verbal communication, hearing.
