Job Description:
The Associate Athletic Director of Strategic Communications will develop and manage a strategic,
innovative, and comprehensive external and internal communications strategy for the Radford
University Athletics Department. This position will be responsible for developing, integrating, and
implementing a broad range of communications and public relations activities that will enhance the overall mission of the department.
The Associate Athletic Director of Strategic Communications will oversee and direct the operations of the Athletics Communications Office and Video Production Office to include managing associatedbudgets and supervision of full and part-time employees, student assistants, and interns. Other areas of responsibility include serving as liaison to local and national media, brand advancement through writing and distributing press releases and publications, managing all information on RadfordAthletics.com,creating and publishing content on social media platforms, broadcast, and department historicalarchiving. This position will serve on the Athletics Department senior leadership team assisting in the development and implementation of strategies and objectives to ensure departmental goals are met. This position will also serve as the department spokesperson and advise the Athletic Director on media relations matters. The position will accept additional duties and special projects as assigned by the
Athletic Director and/or designee.
Minimum Qualifications:
Advanced degree in communications, journalism or related field or equivalent education, training and experience. Demonstrated writing skills. Professional experience in sports writing, sports copy editing, proofreading or desktop publishing or demonstrated experience in a university sports information office or similar setting. Accuracy in writing, editing, and proofreading. Experience with in-game statisticalsoftware (stat crew}. Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, lnDesign, and QuarkXPress or other desktop publishing programs. Ability to work with minimal supervision and with interruptions while meeting the demands of multiple priorities and deadlines. Demonstratedinterpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and externalconstituents.
